SpottyBrolly Fri 09-Feb-18 11:14:05

I love it and knew a very special lady who called Dorothy.

17caterpillars1mouse Fri 09-Feb-18 11:29:04

It's dd's middle name so obviously I love it

I like Dot more than Dotty personally

LexieLulu Fri 09-Feb-18 11:30:20

VanessaBet Fri 09-Feb-18 11:49:43

I know one who goes by Doll/Dolly as a nickname

Songofthesouth Fri 09-Feb-18 12:45:11

I know a 1 year old Dorothy nn Dottie. At first I wasn’t sure but actually it really suits her.

Couchiecoo Fri 09-Feb-18 13:53:45

I absolutely love the little name Dottie 🙊😁

HuskyMcClusky Fri 09-Feb-18 13:58:02

Noooo. It’s awful. You might as well call her Gladys or Barbara.

Elocutioner Fri 09-Feb-18 13:59:59

I like it, although I prefer Dorothea

SadieHufflepuff Fri 09-Feb-18 14:35:17

Also like Valerie, both timeless names.

SheelaNaGiggle Fri 09-Feb-18 16:29:23

Is Valerie timeless? It shouts 1950s to me.

Laqueue Fri 09-Feb-18 16:33:02

I prefer Dorothea, plus it gives you Thea as an extra possible "short"

ItsAllABitStrangeReally Fri 09-Feb-18 16:33:03

I think the Romans would argue with that one Sheela !!!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun Fri 09-Feb-18 16:34:55

It's cute.

SheelaNaGiggle Fri 09-Feb-18 16:36:00

I think the Romans would argue with that one Sheela !!!

I'm not saying it's not an old name but to me 'timeless' is a name that never dates. Catherine for example. Not Valerie.

Justanewname Fri 09-Feb-18 16:56:15

Dorothy is a lovely name. Lots of nice nicknames. It’s not that common for new babies but is still a nice ordinary name that everyone knows how to spell.
