We both like Thomas.

But it doesn't really work with our surname... And we seem have really different tastes in girl's names.

I'd be really grateful for suggestions / advice.

I was going to say. It's better than having a snaking long list. However if it doesn't go with your surname.
Would just Tom work.

Oh, and the name should sound nice in German and English (which shouldn't be too difficult, but just adds an other "layer" of complicated).

TIA smile

Can you give some examples of the girls names you like and the ones your husband likes?

Sugarpiehoneyeye Thu 08-Feb-18 08:21:55

How about Francis, it's a great name !

floriad Thu 08-Feb-18 08:23:27

Would just Tom work.?

I don't know. It would be a bit like calling your child Andy Anderson (our surname isn't Thomas but contains the name Thomas....)

It's not horrible but a bit "cartoonish", I suppose.

Alexander. Benjamin. Oliver. James. Peter
Conrad. Sebastian. Nathan. Elliot. Andrew.
George. Samuel. Matthew. Gabriel. William.

I like Sebastian. I also like Peter but I have some weird (although not unpleasant) associations with that name...

Florence. Isadora. Abigail. Jessica. Dorothy. Elizabeth. Alexandra. Olivia. Amelia. Natalia. Mabel. Evelyn. Martha.
Claudia. Felicity. Aurora. Georgia. Vivienne.
Matilda. Bryony. Melanie. Violet. Helena.
Kate. Lydia. Harriet. Cora. Rosa. Adalaide

I love Claudia and like Florence but I'm not sure if I'd use Claudia as a first name (it's my middle and my mother's first name).

I like Helena smile I wonder whether my OH likes that one...

floriad Thu 08-Feb-18 08:36:35

Can you give some examples of the girls names you like and the ones your husband likes?

Yes smile

He likes Emily, Hannah, Charlotte, Louise and my own name.

I like Francesca (so much!), Alma, Leona, Elena and Selma.

Francis
Sounds weird in German, tbh. And it reminds me of the pope...

Thank you smile!

Well it seems to work for David Davis.

MammieBear Thu 08-Feb-18 09:11:41

Suggestions that may work for you :
Thomason
Tommy
Tom
Tomkin

ChocolateCrunch Thu 08-Feb-18 09:13:41

Stefan
Albert
Frederick
Markus

Margo
Arabella
Lorelei
Emmeline

floriad Thu 08-Feb-18 09:16:38

Mammie

Thomason is worse than Thomas with our surname, tbh.

Tommy sounds childish

Tom is short but nice.

Tomkin? Hm... I like it! But my OH won't.

David Davis? But doesn't it sound somewhat silly?

MammieBear Thu 08-Feb-18 10:42:42

Right, didn't realise your surname was Thomas. How about one of the other classics like James or Robert or Timothy?

pipilangstrumpf Thu 08-Feb-18 10:46:38

Tobias
Quentin

Helena
Antonia

allegretto Thu 08-Feb-18 10:49:04

I don't know. It would be a bit like calling your child Andy Anderson (our surname isn't Thomas but contains the name Thomas....)

Personally I love names like that. Don't rule it out!

Argeles Thu 08-Feb-18 10:50:12

I love the German name Sophine for a girl.

Corneliusmurphy Thu 08-Feb-18 10:52:25

A friend with similar criteria has a Bruno and Emilia both of which I love

floriad Thu 08-Feb-18 11:12:03

*mammie"

DH loves Robert. I like it but it's a bit "middle aged" imo...

Our surname isn't Thomas. But it would be like Andrew Andrews or the already mentioned David Davies...

I like Tobias! Thanks smile

floriad Thu 08-Feb-18 11:13:51

allegretto

Really? It wouldn't give you an impression of "they were unable to come up with a first name"?

Emilia:

I like Emilia but there are girls named Amelia, Emily, Amelie, Emmeline...

SpottyBrolly Thu 08-Feb-18 11:34:56

How about Arnold?

floriad Thu 08-Feb-18 12:36:34

Arnold isn't a name I like, tbh.

What do you think about Emil, Francesco and Frank / Franco?
I love those names but DH doesn't. I'm just wondering whether I should bring them up again...

rainsbows30 Thu 08-Feb-18 13:04:30

Timothy?

rainsbows30 Thu 08-Feb-18 13:04:39

Theo

allegretto Thu 08-Feb-18 13:32:22

Really? It wouldn't give you an impression of "they were unable to come up with a first name"?
Erm, no. I like it.

harrietm87 Thu 08-Feb-18 13:41:29

What about Max or Ferdinand?

Don't like Francesco/Franco - call him Francis if you want Frank.

Francesca for a girl is lovely. What about Clara, Alba, Charlotte?
