Looking for some inspiration of any names we might have missed.
Due in March and can't seem to agree on "the one".

Here is the list we have so far-

Iris - my total favourite, DH not keen
Isobel- we both like but don't love (Scottish spelling is the one we like as DH part scot). Also Isabelle spelling/Isabella v popular.
Fearne- both like
Violet- both like
Agnes- both really like but we both have A initials so feels a bit wrong/we don't want an A name. And maybe too old lady.
Lily- really like but far too popular.

So any others that leap out at you? Thank you!

MikeUniformMike Mon 22-Jan-18 15:15:16

Iris is nice
Isobel - I would go for the Isabel spelling and it is very popular
Fearne - Prefer Fern
Violet - Prefer Viola. Not keen on Vi. or Vilet pronunciation.
Agnes - back in fashion. Not keen on Aggie.
Lily - very popular and I don't like Lil.

I think I would go for Fern or think of why you like each name.

Awwlookatmybabyspider Mon 22-Jan-18 15:15:35

I dont like Iris Ferne or Agnes
Violet is gorgeous.
Lily and Isabella/e are just okay, but if popularity bothers you I'd avoid
So based on that I'd go for Violet.
Other ideas.
Jasmine. Lilia. Laila. Felicity. Willow. Flora.
Florianne. Iona. Sienna. Hazel.

Agnes is Ines in spain, and Innes is Scottish. I think I know 1 Innes and he's a man but it is nice. Annes (pr. Ann-es) is similar but starts with A.
Elspeth is Scottish and could be shortened to Elsie or Beth (Elsbeth?)
Fearne - nature name? Rowan, Bracken, Heather.
Iris - rainbow or flower?

MammieBear Mon 22-Jan-18 15:24:06

I think Isobel is a good choice with the Scottish heritage, Agnes second for the same reason, I wouldn't worry about Agnes being too "old lady" all names do a full circle.

Some really good suggestions, I'll put them to DH later.
Please keep them coming smile

I really like Iris and Isobel

On a sort of 'slightly old fashioned and slightly different theme' how about:

Bronte, Blythe, Cora, Clara, Cecily, Celest, Daphne, Erica, Effie, Fleur, Greta, Helena, Hetty, Ingrid, Ivy, Joanna, Jonquil, Keziah, Lilith, Lindy, Mara, Martha, Nina, Nadia, Olive, Polly, Rosa, Sorrel, Stella, Tessa, Tara, Verity

justtheonethen Mon 22-Jan-18 15:53:09

Really like Ivy and Hetty!

ChocolateCrunch Mon 22-Jan-18 16:32:43

I like Iris and Violet, and quite like Agnes. Not keen on Fearne, and there just seem to be loads of little girls called Isobel and Lily right now.

How about Edith (Edie), Clara, Rosalie, Elodie, Flora, Tansy, Hazel or Mabel?

AdaColeman Mon 22-Jan-18 16:47:44

If you like Hetty what about Hester? Lovely strong name I think.

I'm not keen on Isabelle as that and all the variants are massively popular already.

Agnes is nice but Aggie isn't.

What about Corinna, Dulcie, or Marguerite?

justtheonethen Mon 22-Jan-18 16:48:13

Love Elodie! I love Edith (Edie) but have a friend who has a daughter called that! I love Mabel but DH not keen.

justtheonethen Mon 22-Jan-18 16:49:12

Ada totally agree re popularity of all the Isabelle/Isabel etc.
Hester is a nice name. I'll see what DH thinks.

Iris - love it, though it's v.popular where i live
Isobel- Nice but a bit too sweet
Fearne- Not keen on the bluntness of the sound

I like Iris and Agnes. Fern is nice, spelled like that. I do like Isobel as well - it's popular, but I like the Scottish spelling. Lily is nice - but it's been popular for 20 years now, so it seems a bit tired. I don't like Violet at all (a tiny ground-hugging weed /plant doesn't seem a good omen).

Smoliver Mon 22-Jan-18 19:23:48

Iris - nice name, I wouldn't use it myself - bit of an old lady name for me.

Isobel - I love this spelling of this name, however with Isabelle and Isabella being popular, I would be put off too.

Fearne - love this name and this spelling of it!

Violet - this one is growing on me. I recently rewatched The Incredibles and I love the character Violet in it.

Agnes - too old lady for my taste, sorry.

Lily - a lovely classic, but it is a bit popular at the moment. Maybe you could use this as a middle name?

VerbenaGirl Mon 22-Jan-18 19:41:57

Wait until she arrives to see which fits her best. My first fitted the name we had pretty much chosen for her, but my second just didn’t!

Iris I love - your DH May change his mind when she arrives!
There are thousands of Isobel’s and Isabelle’s at my childrens school.
Fern nicer than Fearne - I can’t help but be reminded of Fearne Cotton / Fern whatshername from daytime TV.
Violet is okay. Agnes is lovely.
Agree Lily is far too popular!

Good luck!

ButterflyOfFreedom Mon 22-Jan-18 20:18:12

I should have said Iris and Violet are my favourites from your list!

YouCantBeSirius Mon 22-Jan-18 20:22:22

Ishbel? Similar to Isobel and it's Scottish too.
