Baby names

I’m now liking Charlotte Amelia for a girl’s name... what do you think?

I’m updating my last post with this main choice for a girl - my DH seemed to like it too, but we may change our minds in a few weeks when we’ve had the 20w scan! Wink

It's OK, but I'm not keen myself. I don't particularly like Charlotte and I prefer Amelia, but it's apparently very common - though I don't know anyone, from baby to old age, called it.

I really like it Smile

It’s nice but a bit ‘boring’, tbh.

I agree - both names are nice but seem a bit bland to me.

Pretty standard. Nothing wrong with it. People will assume you called her after the princess, and there will be a few in her class. I don’t think Amelia particularly goes with Charlotte, but it’s not terrible. Not every baby has to be given a stand-out name. It’s pretty, it’s fine.

Lovely.
How nice to finally see a lovely name on a baby names thread Smile

It's very standard, but that's not to say it's not nice, because it is a nice name

Its okay both names are a bit monotonous now, though.

I think Charlotte is lovely, and your combo good too. We have a young Charlotte in our extended family (born before Princess Charlotte) and she is Charlie for short, or CC. I really like that.

BackforGood thank you! That was a very sweet reply. Wink

I agree that the names aren’t mind blowing or unusual but I honestly haven’t looked at any quirky names as it hasn’t crossed my mind to yet. My DD actually suggested Charlotte, so it was nothing to do with the Royals! I think she chose a lovely - if supposedly ‘boring’ - name.

I also like Isabella but I think this is pretty standard too. We might keep it in reserve and see if our baby looks like she (or it could even be a he!) suits any of our names.

I think the names go very well together, good choice !
I also like Charlotte Abigail.

I like Charlotte but I’m not too keen on Amelia (unless there’s a personal reason for choosing it. e.g. an honour name).

thethoughtfox · 13/01/2018 16:24

I don't think they go well together. There will be lots of Charlottes in her classes/

She sounds like she is a 17 year old girl.

My parents gave me a name which had already been popular for decades when i was born so i couldnt get my name on lunch boxes and glitter pens but when i went to winchester cathedral the gift shop had tons of stuff with my name! 🤣

I think it’s v classy and feminine.

People saying there are going to be loads in her class aren't correct (ok there could be but it's unlikely). There are so many names used today that percentages of each name are smaller. Also people won't assume you've named her after the princess as Charlotte is a name that has been used for ages and there are lots of well known ones eg Charlotte Bronte.

You might want to think about pet names and whether you like them? I know a Charlie and a Lottie. Lottie causes confusion as no one knows her name is Charlotte!

This is why my DD is not called Tamsin. Love the name, don’t like Tammy

Lovely. Charlotte isn't massively popular or boring (imo!).

Charlotte was the number 1 most popular girls name of 2017 here in New Zealand.
I'd check the top 10 lists and make sure my name wasn't on it if you don't want loads of little girls with the same name

I have a Charlotte, I actually haven’t come across any young ones at all so far. I think the royals might have put people off! I love the name, and I think it suits my daughter well. It is a classic name and I don’t think it will age or fall out of fashion. You cannot attribute it to a particular era. Some people think it is boring but I don’t! Traditional maybe, but I don’t think that is a bad thing

I love the name Charlotte, only know one who's in her twenties and known as Lottie, which I also like.
