I'm still TTC at the moment but already have a shortlist of girls names I really like and I'd love your honest opinions on each.

After writing a long list on my phone it was obvious that I have a penchant for girl names beginning with "E", and only E names will do it would seem smile

So here is my shortlist....some I like more than others and I have a favourite (I think) but would love to hear everyones opinions.....

Elena (pronounced e-LEN-ah)

If it matters we have a two syllable (quite boring) surname and we will be choosing two middle names (family tradition).

Like Elena and Emma.

Elle feels tacky. Ella seems wishywashy and Emmy is a bit cutsie/silly.

Just my own personal impression of those names.

Mrsknackered Sat 06-Jan-18 00:18:59

I like Elle and Emma. Emmy short for Emmeline is nice.

What about Elise?

lovingfridays Sat 06-Jan-18 00:19:28

Lovey! I have an Emma who is friends with an Ella and an Elenya.

Other E names I love are:
Elodie, Ellen, Eliza, Elsbeth, Erin, Eva, Esme

Congratulations on pg!

Ok to the names
Elena (pronounced e-LEN-ah) if you’re going to be really specific about that pronunciation I see it being problematic. I wouldn’t pronounce as e-LEN-ah. I’d say ELLE- En -Ah. So be aware everyone won’t pronounce your way
All the other names I like
Elle so long as your surname isn’t woods

EssentialHummus Sat 06-Jan-18 00:20:13

Ooh, Elise is good! Otherwise Elena for me.

Ella and Emma are decent, solid names, thought neither will set the world alight. Not at all keen on Elle. Emmy is a nickname, too obviously short for Emma, and Elena will cause constant pronunciation problems - not fair on the child in my opinion. I would pronounce it Ellen-a which you say is wrong?

Badhairday1001 Sat 06-Jan-18 00:20:33

Elena and Emma for me too. I also quite like Emmy but think it might be babyish for anyone over the age of 10.

LipstickHandbagCoffee Sat 06-Jan-18 00:21:05

Emmy, that’s a labradoodle name

rainbowstardrops Sat 06-Jan-18 00:21:51

I quite like Elle or Ella.

How about

CandyCaneCaz Sat 06-Jan-18 00:22:40

My best friend called her new baby girl Etta. I love it. So unusual

Badhairday1001 Sat 06-Jan-18 00:22:55

I love Esme as an E name.

LipstickHandbagCoffee Sat 06-Jan-18 00:23:54

Oh I misread, you’re ttc. Hopefully pg soon

Mrsknackered Sat 06-Jan-18 00:24:25

candycane I love Etta. But I've actually heard of 2 new baby Etta's in the last couple of days! I think one may be an Arietty though.

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone Sat 06-Jan-18 00:24:52

Elena is the only one I really like of those OP, but I do REALLY like it. The others are just a bit 'nothing' IMO.

MollyHuaCha Sat 06-Jan-18 00:47:43

Elena (pronounced e-LEN-ah)
Ok, but she will have a lifetime of correcting people's pronunciation

Sounds like a nn for Emma or Emmeline

Chapman198 Sat 06-Jan-18 00:54:41

My daughter is Eliza-Mae
But unless you like it's no good
You have to be right n once the name comes to you
You will know x

Pemba Sat 06-Jan-18 00:58:18

Elena is nice, but most people would assume it's pronounced El-AY-na. Elle is slightly tacky, and the French for 'she'. But as someone pointed out on another thread Ella is apparently the Spanish for 'she'. Much prefer Ella though.

Emma is nice, but loads of them around, guess that doesn't matter. Emmy is cute but very nicknamey.

Awwlookatmybabyspider Sat 06-Jan-18 01:01:34

Elle and Emma.

I take it you like E names more ideas for your list.
Eleni. Elodie. Emilia. Erin. Elisa. Elise. Esme. Evie. Eva. Elaia. Ellia. Ebony. Elora.
Eliza. Ember. Emaya.

AnyaMoondial Sat 06-Jan-18 01:01:45

I really like Elle. How about Eloise? Or Electra. Or maybe Erika.

fkthssht Sat 06-Jan-18 01:03:26

Elena (pronounced e-LEN-ah) nice
Elle a bit dull
Ella ok but the are loads around if that bothers you
Emma nice
Emmy nickname for Emma or maybe Emmeline

fkthssht Sat 06-Jan-18 01:05:23

Eleanor is probably my favorite E name.

BastardGoDarkly Sat 06-Jan-18 01:34:46

Eloise is my favorite E name.

But out of yours,I like Ella.

Joeybee Sat 06-Jan-18 07:51:57

Elena (pronounced e-LEN-ah) - Really nice name, but people may not always say/spell it they way you would like it to be. That'd annoy me If I had that name.

Elle - A bit plain.

Ella - Still can get Elle as a nickname if you like. A nice, pretty name, but a little cutesy.

Emma - LOVE it. Classic, strong, beautiful name. Pretty popular though.

Emmy - Don't like it as a name in its own right. Is a nice nickname for any of the above names.
