Meaningful name for stillborn baby

Sorry about a depressing thread in what should be a joyous topic.
I am 17 weeks pregnant and my baby will not make it to birth. My only hope is that he/she will make it to 22 weeks, which would give him or her the right to have a birth certificate here in France.
DH does not really want to talk about it.

For a girl, I like Evangeline (bearer of good news) and Theodora (gift from God).
I like Joseph for a boy.

No name has struck me so far as "the" name - it all seems too early but we will have to make a choice soon.

I think they are all lovely names but Theodora (Dora) is my favourite of the girls names. I'm so sorry you're going through this Flowers

Evangeline and Theodora are both beautiful names. You may also like:

Mirabelle “miraculous”
Bellatrix “female warrior”
Matilda/Mathilde “mighty in battle”
Jemima “little dove”
Salome “peace”

All the very best to you

Thank you. Do you have any ideas for a boy? I am not keen on Theodore.

I'm so sorry to hear that you're going through this. You sound incredibly brave.

I quite like Zeke (short for Ezekiel - name of old Testament prophet and means ‘God strengthens’.

I also really really like Phoenix.

I'm so sorry Flowers
How about:
Amias - loved - for a boy

On a practical note, which may be helpful, I had a stillbirth in France at 19 weeks a couple of years ago and I was offered the choice of registering the birth or not whereas after 22 weeks I think I would have had to. I'm not sure though as I was on holiday and my French isn't perfect. I don't want to challenge what you've been told as things might have changed or I might have misunderstood. I was asked if I wanted the baby recorded in our family registration book before they realised as a Brit I didn't have one. I know you didn't ask for practical help so I hope you don't mind my sharing.
Best wishes Flowers

Thanks thruthewisteria
You can put the baby on the "Livret de famille" before 22 weeks but it is only a symbolic mention. The baby has no surname and no "filiation" (no link to the parents). After 22 weeks it is a stillbirth, not a miscarriage and the baby's rights are different.

We named our daughter Madeleine from Magdalena/ Magdala meaning elevated, magnificent. It's been over 6 years. Time heals and life offers happiness and blessings to fill the void of such a loss. But your child becomes a part of your family's tapestry. That pain you feel now becomes a bittersweet comfort over time.

I am so sorry that you are facing such sadness. I am sure you will choose a fitting and meaningful name. Theodora is beautiful. Miriam is another name with meaning: 'a wished for child'. Flowers

I'm so sorry to hear that you have received such tragic news about your baby. My dd was stillborn at 32 weeks and we knew from 20 weeks that stillbirth was the most likely outcome. Before finding out, we had chosen a flower related name for a girl. That flower has come to be significant in our remembering her. You could consider something similar as a middle name. I'm very happy to chat more if you would like to.

Joseph, Evangeline and Theodora are beautiufl names.

If you’re looking for other boy names... maybe Gabriel (God is my strong man), David (beloved), Noah (comfort and rest), Angelo/Angelus or Raphael (God has healed).

So sorry for your loss. Flowers

For a meaningful name you might consider Jeremiah due to the lines in the bible in the book of Jeremiah "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you"
