Hazel?

DD4 is due in the new year and DH has put Hazel forward as his top choice in name.

I do really like it, but also keep thinking of it as a name associated with my MIL’s generation. We’ve had mainly ‘so and so’s aunt/nan/sister is called Hazel’ when we mentioned it to family.

Our current DD’s names don’t follow a ‘theme’ however one does have a nature inspired name which Hazel fits very nicely with.

Thoughts?

It is quite old fashioned, but I know two (one elderly and one a slip if a girl) and they're both absolutely lovely, with lots about them, IYSWIM. For me, it's a lovely name.

Might be odd if they have piercing blue eyes though!

I love this name and nature inspired names. A friend’s young DD is called this and it really suits her, and is both original but not unfamiliar. Plus I think it’s really cute when small to call her Hazel Nut (you might not think so!)

I think it's absolutely beautiful OP.

I like it. It's pretty and unusual.

I dont think it matters what colour eyes your child has being called Hazel. You get lots of Violet's and Scarlett's.

It’s lovely.

I like it. I've only ever known one and I remember thinking what a lovely name when she introduced herself.
It doesn't feel old fashioned to me. Just pretty and a little bit different. Go for it.

Love it and I'd say it was due a comeback! Loads of older generation names come back round so I wouldn't worry about what it in fashion, if you both love it I'd go for it! Congrats on your little girl x

I like it, go for it smile

I like it. Know two under 5 and taught a few Turkish Hazels over the years too.

Really pretty name.

Tinselistacky Thu 07-Dec-17 10:42:12

Only ever known 1 and she was a lovely girl!! Is she likely to have Hazel eyes?

Hazel - Nuts! My friend gets this over and over for her entire life - she really hates it. It's also delivered like the person is the first person to think of it. Just something to think about - I've come across quite a few here in NI and always really, really lovely women.

My friend's 18 month old is called Hazel. I think it is a beautiful name. She has had lots of lovely comments about it.

LadyMarmyLard Thu 07-Dec-17 11:03:31

I really like it

PenelopePickle Thu 07-Dec-17 11:56:36

@Tinselistacky she could have, 2 of DC have bright blue eyes and the other has hazel.
I’ve got dark brown and DH blue/green!

PenelopePickle Thu 07-Dec-17 11:57:43

Thanks everyone, it seems like a generally well liked name.

Stilllookingforwaldo Thu 07-Dec-17 14:09:55

I love Hazel!❤️

I really like it and I know a baby Hazel. I think it might be on its way to making a come back

foreverandalways Thu 07-Dec-17 14:25:37

Absolutely not a name for 2018....

BakedBeeeen Thu 07-Dec-17 14:30:39

This is one of my top girls names. Lovely and a bit different without being too girly and frilly.

ButterfliesAreWeird Thu 07-Dec-17 14:38:19

It's actually fairly common these days. Particularly Hazel Grace

SantaStuckInTheChimney Thu 07-Dec-17 15:57:29

Very outdated. Very bland.

TeenTimesTwo Thu 07-Dec-17 16:00:45

I'm smiling at the thought of it being 'old fashioned' with all the Eddie and Ivy and Alfie names there are around these days. smile

Hazel is a lovely name.

NoelNiki Thu 07-Dec-17 16:20:38

Mabel and Maud have made comebacks.

Hazel isnt sold fashioned name by any stretch.
