Honest opinions on Shay for a baby girl please

NotWeavingButDarning Tue 05-Dec-17 11:17:38

No. Awful. Sorry.

Sirzy Tue 05-Dec-17 11:18:08

I have never heard it for a girl. It’s popular locally for boys but even then not my cup of tea

chiaseeddisapointmentagain Tue 05-Dec-17 11:18:25

I've heard a lot worse on here.

RavingRoo Tue 05-Dec-17 11:18:34

Shay is a very popular Indian boy’s name.

RavingRoo Tue 05-Dec-17 11:18:56

As is Jay

Saladd0dger Tue 05-Dec-17 11:19:33

I know a few boys called shay. My friend called her little girl Shayla

haba Tue 05-Dec-17 11:21:32

People will just associate it with Tirion's whore. Not what you want them to be thinking of...

Erica891 Tue 05-Dec-17 11:21:57

Nope. Maybe Shayla or Shayna, latter pronounced as "sha-i-na"

AllRoadsLeadBackToRadley Tue 05-Dec-17 11:24:49

Shay Mitchell (PLL). Her "Shay" is short for Shannon though.

FrancisCrawford Tue 05-Dec-17 11:28:14

Really don’t like it at all

planbatman Tue 05-Dec-17 11:35:36

Depends where you are OP.
Shay/Shea/Sé is a popular boys name in Ireland.

Mrsknackered Tue 05-Dec-17 11:36:28

I knew quite a few boy and girls Shay/shea's (School years in south east london)

I prefer it for a boy, but if you love it, use it. I would spell it Shea though smile

Kursk Tue 05-Dec-17 11:57:41

Shay no unless it’s short for Shantae. In which case I would shorten to Tay.

PersianCatLady Tue 05-Dec-17 11:59:12

I have only ever heard someone called Shay when it is their surname.

Tubbyinthehottub Tue 05-Dec-17 11:59:34

I only know it as short for Seamus.

NataliaOsipova Tue 05-Dec-17 12:00:01

Awful - sorry!

Whythesnoring Tue 05-Dec-17 13:46:44

Not a fan sorry

Smoliver Tue 05-Dec-17 15:18:19

I like it. Think it's a good unisex name for a girl

thepatchworkcat Tue 05-Dec-17 15:20:16

Have only come across it as a boy’s name.

Patal Tue 05-Dec-17 17:27:35

I love Shay but have a little cousin called Shae so out of the question for me.
I’ve known little girls called Shay as a nn for Shaylee/Shaylee and Shayla

SylviaTietjens Tue 05-Dec-17 17:28:32

Wasn’t there a prostitute in GoT called Shay?

Wishfulmakeupping Tue 05-Dec-17 17:29:16

Thought it was a boys name

badg3r Tue 05-Dec-17 17:34:46

I like the way it sounds but not how it looks. The Shea spelling reminds me of shea butter too.

17caterpillars1mouse Tue 05-Dec-17 17:58:40

Ive only ever known male Shea's. I'm not a fan at all though on either or not it girl spelt either Shea or Shay
