- Rupert
- Guy
- Gregor - we aren’t Scottish. Would it be weird to use anyway?
- Jesse - Dh isn’t sold on this as he says it’s a girl name? I think of it as a boy name.
- Cyrus - I think there’s a serial killer in a soap of this name and also an evil monk in the Dan Brown books? It doesn’t massively bother me, as I don’t watch soaps or read Dan Brown novels, but happy to hear other opinions.
- Bennett - not my usual taste tbh, but I love this!
- Jacob - I’m not in love with Jake though... I would probably shorten to Jay or not at all. Obviously I know he might get Jake anyway. I can live with it.
- Matthew - probably my least favourite, but I can’t quite bring myself to take it off the list...

Matthew is my favourite on your list. Timeless and classic, a strong name but not to harsh.

WaxOnFeckOff Mon 04-Dec-17 14:45:46

Gregory by a country mile.

WaxOnFeckOff Mon 04-Dec-17 14:46:18

Gregor I mean. Damn auto correct.

Mugshotzforlunch Mon 04-Dec-17 14:47:29

Love them all!! Sorry not helpful.

TobleroneBoo Mon 04-Dec-17 14:47:35

I think the evil monk is Silas?

QueenOfCatan Mon 04-Dec-17 14:47:44

I love cyrus, one of my top boys names!

Abetes Mon 04-Dec-17 14:47:56

Love Matthew - Matty is sweet for a baby/child and Matt is good for teen/adult. Don’t particularly like the others.

Myreputation Mon 04-Dec-17 14:48:31

Not keen on any but like Jacob the best.

ASDismynormality Mon 04-Dec-17 14:49:14

I love Jesse and regret not using it.

JaneWonder Mon 04-Dec-17 14:49:15

Gregor is great
Rupert is sweet

Don’t like the others

RebeccaWrongDaily Mon 04-Dec-17 14:50:00

Matthew and Guy are the best. I don't really like the others, they seem 'faddy'

Aaaah thanks. Told you I didn’t read them!

And thanks all for comments! Bit of a mixed bag so far.

I know a baby Rupert IRL, goes by Roo, cute, love it.
Don't see Guy as a baby name (I know that s ridiculous all adult Guy's must've been babies at some point etc)
Gregor is ok, but same issue as Guy for me
We liked Jesse for DS, but can see where your DH is coming from
Not a big fan of Cyrus - makes me think of Miley
Bennett's ok, bit unusual, though he'll probably end up as Ben
Same with Jacob/Jake
Like Matthew a lot, again we liked it for DS but it's BIL's name so we decided not to.

Love Rupert and Gregor! Strong cool names.

Jesse sounds a little feminine to me and I dislike Matthew (the ew part) and really dislike Matt.

Sugarpiehoneyeye Mon 04-Dec-17 17:56:40

Love Gregor and Matthew.

- Rupert - I really like it and think Roois a cute nn for a toddler
- Guy - I don't really see it as a name, more a word
- Gregor - nice but prefer Gregory
- Jesse - it's ok. I know one and he's a cute toddler
- Cyrus - I want to like it but it makes me think of Money Cyrus. Eurgh. Have you considered Silas?
- Bennett - not a fan
- Jacob - I love Jacob but dislike Jake (and Jay) so wouldn't use
- Matthew - it's ok but i much prefer Matthias and Matteo

CPtart Mon 04-Dec-17 18:30:45

Rupert...the bear
Guy..dislike, belongs on a bonfire
Gregor..dislike, sounds incomplete
Jesse..effeminate in "achey breaky heart?"
Bennett..dreadful it in its entirety, not keen on Jake or Jay though
Matthew..dull but inoffensive

ThroughThickAndThin01 Mon 04-Dec-17 18:33:12

I like Rupert and Matthew.

Hate Jesse.

Could really grow to like Cyrus. Nice sound.

Ropsleybunny Mon 04-Dec-17 18:34:16

Matthew first then Jacob.

ByThePowerOfRa Mon 04-Dec-17 19:12:56

Oh I probably should have mentioned; I’m Irish, have never celebrated Guy Fawkes / bonfire night and I doubt I ever will. So, obviously, the “belongs on a bonfire” connotation doesn’t really mean so much to me. Is Guy Fawkes still a really negative connotation in England then? I guess it must be if people want to burn him every year - yikes!

My English DH was the one who suggested Guy though confused.
