mathanxiety Mon 13-Nov-17 20:04:27

Very unusual Biblical name. I like it.

Skatingmama Mon 13-Nov-17 20:06:03

I knew a lovely one a while ago. He didn't like it much -too out there/teasing etc. He was orthodox Jewish btw which I would expect most with the name will be.

I had a lecturer at university called Boaz. I liked him. I realise that's irrelevant.

I'm presuming you're Jewish and so it will be a more well known name for family etc?

Kr1st1na Mon 13-Nov-17 20:09:37

It’s a a name with lovely story attached, but it will only be familiar to those of a Christian / Jewish heritage.

Are you particularly wanting a Biblical name ?

Caulk Mon 13-Nov-17 20:10:27

I know two. One is about 8 months and the other is 16.

NorthernLurker Mon 13-Nov-17 20:11:03

I know a baby Boaz. I think it takes a lot of pulling off tbh.

woodhill Mon 13-Nov-17 20:11:41

Wasn’t he the guy Ruth served in the bible?

AndromedaPerseus Mon 13-Nov-17 20:11:58

It's fine; I'd assume you were religious

Misspilly88 Mon 13-Nov-17 20:12:40

Went to college with a Boaz. He was lovely. He was not English.

thepatchworkcat Mon 13-Nov-17 20:13:20

I’ve never heard of it, how is it pronounced?

wizzywig Mon 13-Nov-17 20:13:26

That was the name of calpurnias brother in Dallas. Calpurnia being JRs wife. They were hicks

Skatingmama Mon 13-Nov-17 20:14:10

Just read the story about leaving the poor widow the grain - it is lovely!

I think the problem with having a very unusual name is that if people are the shy and retiring type it can be too much for them

Skatingmama Mon 13-Nov-17 20:14:36

The one I knew said it as

Bo as

StatueInTheSky Mon 13-Nov-17 20:15:05

I thought it was the stone from goats Harry Potter....then googled and that is a bezoar.

I'd think without any Jewish link it is very unusual choice.

It's not as well known as Noah which seems similar to me. The z ending is unusual which is what I find a bit harsh to my ears.

pipilangstrumpf Tue 14-Nov-17 08:02:02

I think Boaz sounds more masculine than Noah, if you’re looking for another religious name.

flumpybear Tue 14-Nov-17 08:03:56

I’d be worried his nickname would be Bozo

icantgetnosleep5 Tue 14-Nov-17 14:26:34

Eeeeek I would have to say definitely not
