Just looking for opinions on the name Barnaby, or similar?
I’m stuck for any other names that I really like & this is the only one dp & I agree on.

It's great for cat or a pug, but that's about it.

Do you recall the incident maybe a year or so ago when Johnny Depp and his then-gf Amber Heard got in trouble trying to bring their two dogs into Australia without going through quarantine? The Government Minister in charge of that (made Depp very annoyed) was Barnaby Joyce, since disqualified from parliament because turns out he's a dual citizen.

Odd choice for a name

I know a lovely teenage Barnaby. I like it, it’s cool classic and not too trendy.

Barney is a cool nickname and MUCH better than Teddy.

I like it. It's a name with a long history. I much prefer the English Barnaby over Barnabas. It makes me think of the boy from the Susan Cooper Dark is Rising sequence, and Barney is a nice nickname.

My dog is named Barnaby but I do like it for a boy.

I love it, but then I'm biased.

I got the name from The Dark is Rising but went for Barnaby instead of Barnabas.

My one is always known as Barney.

I can't say anyone has connected the name with some obscure Australian government minister. Dogs, yes. Purple dinosaur, yes. HIMYM, yes. Random Australian bloke, no.

I love both Barnaby and Barnabas.

For things with a similar feel, how about Bartholemew (Bart), Thaddeus (Thad), Diggory or Tobias/Toby?

Lush on an under five year old. My 11 year old son would Freak if he was named that!

I'm pretty sure any 11 yo would freak if you randomly changed their name, whether to Barnaby or any other name.

However my son has had 10 years with the name, so I'm pretty sure he won't freak about it on his 11th birthday. None of my others have with their names.

Weird.

Reminds me of Barnaby Bear. Can’t imagine it on a human.

On a baby, it's cute, but I can't imagine a teenage or adult Barnaby. Too babyish and it instantly makes me think of a bear.

Barnaby Joyce.

Aside from that, it's pretty dire. I can't imagine many people appreciating being called Barnaby.

Not a favourite of mine.

@SuperBeagle, I'm not the only one who thought of Barnaby Joyce then! Random Australian bloke, indeed (though yes he really is!!)

It's a great name, my dc's have a mate called it, known as Barney, he's very very cool and so is his name!

It was my first choice for DS, but DH was absolutely not having it.

I named the car it instead Blush

There is an 8 yo one in my son's class. Lovely lad and no one thinks it's an odd name. He mostly gets called Barney.

Beautiful name classic but not too popular. Go for it.
