Baby names

Still haven't named week old daughter

Hi

My baby girl is over a week old and we still haven't settled on a name for her. We thought we would name her Violet, but we're not sure she looks like one, and various family members have told us how horrible the name is!

So our current shortlist is
Anna
Violet
Catherine (Kitty)
April
Thea

Any thoughts/opinions /suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Congratulations.
Violet is a beautiful name. Would you mind showing us a picture, so we can try and see what name she looks like

I agree with them on Violet. It's very harsh, and popular right now as one of the flower names, but somehow it just doesn't work. And Vi is horrible!

Anna is head and shoulders above the other names- classic, gentle, beautiful.

I love the name Thea. Violet is not so nice and brings the word violent to mind I’m afraid.

I'm not keen on Violet either - reminds me of violent and it's a bit of a weed. All your other names on your list are really nice.

Anna and Catherine are my favourites, but I like April too. I dislike Violet and it is popular now so likely to date.

Catherine is a classic and very underused. It’s my baby’s middle name

All of your names choices are nice. I like, in this order...

  1. Violet - so pretty and my favourite. I’m just not hearing the ‘violent’ connection here any more than I think of a last will and testament when a male is called William
  2. Catherine - classic, though I prefer it with a K.
  3. Anna - again a classic, you can’t go wrong with this name
  4. April - love it
  5. Thea - very nice. I’ve known three different pronunciations: Th-ee-ah, T-ee-ah, Tay-ah.

Congratulations!

I like Catherine and Thea from your list. Maybe you could use Violet as a middle name.

If you like the V sound in Violet, how about Verity?
