Both dh and I love William for our boy due in april.

Would you think it strange for a child to be called William, with a greek surname?

Obviously I can't give the actually surname as it would be a bit outing! But think along the lines of papadopoulos.

Not sure if I'm just over thinking it as DD has an English name.

I'd say you were over thinking. William goes withere pretty much anything except Williams!

I wouldn't find that strange at all, don't worry about it.

William is a lovely name. I think it’s fine with a Greek surname.

I know a family full of William McWiliams's! That actually is correct though, as McWilliams means son of Williams (I think). Still a bit boring though.

William Greek Surname is totally fine imo.

I know a Tom Thomas so you could probably get away with William Williams if you need to.

I think you’ll be fine with a Greek surname.

I know a William with a Greek surname. He's now in his teens and no one has found it strange so far!

DS has a Greek friend with Greek surname.
The friend has a very Greek first name but the sister has a very English name. Both work well.

William Williams is a very traditional name.

William Greek-surname isn't, but I honestly don't think it's a problem. People will just assume that you have both English and Greek heritage.

William Papadopoulos sounds wonderful.

William Athanasopoulos sounds more a mouthful.

You just need to try William with the surname. Try it fast and slow and see how it runs off your tongue.

I always recommend people do it, and it's absolutely amazing how many people don't (I remember a child who had to be called by their middle name when the Christian name was tried for the first time with the surname)

People often have cross-cultural name combinations now. It wouldn't raise my eyebrow at all.
