We are a German/ English Family and don’t want to always be correcting people with pronunciation but love the name...

Thanks! grin

I would assume 'lil-lah', rather than li-lah, due to the double 'l' in the middle

If I had to guess - Lee-la. But I'd probably ask first as I'd be really unsure!

*Lil-la as in rhymes with Camilla

FluffyMcCloud Sun 22-Oct-17 08:23:44

Lill (to rhyme with bill) a (like at the end of Layla)

For me it would rhyme with filler

Yes Lilla to rhyme with Camilla

Thanks so much for all the quick responses, and I hoped the double L would help which I think it does...

in German it is pronounced Lee-lah and I think the majority of people have said the same, and as we live in Germany and just come back to England a lot I think we’re going to go with it 😬 fingers crossed she doesn’t hate us for it when she’s older 😂

BernardBlacksHangover Sun 22-Oct-17 09:04:38

I would have guessed Lee-lah (I don't speak a word of German --except the swear words my Austrian friend taught me--).

I'd say Lilla to rhyme with filler

Lil-uh to rhyme with Camilla for me too. I wouldn't pronounce it Lee-luh because of the double L.

Lil-uh (to rhyme with camilla) is still similar to lee-lah if I’m reading/ saying them correctly just not a long e sound, I’m still happy with that...

if everyone had said Ly-la then we would be rethinking names... Luna is also a possibility!!!

Alisvolatpropiis Mon 23-Oct-17 22:00:42

I’d assume Lee-la

SuperBeagle Mon 23-Oct-17 22:10:29

Lilla would rhyme with Camilla.

Leela would be the lee-la pronunciation.

Lila or Lyla would be the ly-la pronunciation.
