How would you pronounce...

...Evelyn?

I love Ev-lin but not so keen on Eeev-lin/Eve/Evie or any other variation.

Will I constantly be correcting people on the pronunciation of DD2’s name?

You will be forever correcting people. I go with whatever pronunciation the parents use, rather than assuming my way is the right way.

I know one eve-lyn and one ever-lyn.

I also know a Karen who's name is spelt like that but pronounced Care-Ann. She often gives up correcting people.

Ever-lin

To answer your question.Yes, I think you would. And it might well end up being shortened. Some people won't even be able to spell it

Ev-eh-lyn. A long E sounds a bit harsh to me.

My mil is Evelyn and I love the name. We all pronounce it eeve-lin but she is mainly called either eve or lin (depends on who the audience are).

But you know it has two different pronunciations so there's no point asking people on this thread how they'd say it. In real life an Evelyn will get called both eev-lin and evva-lin. So if it bugs you I'd put the name aside.

There was a thread about this name and pronunciation recently. Both the children with this name that I know pronounce it Eve-lyn.

I thought that the eve-lyn pronunciation was for boys (like Evelyn Waugh) and ev-lyn or ever-lyn was for girls?

I agree with pp, you'll undoubtedly get a mixture of pronunciations.

My DD is an Evelyn pronounced Eve-Lynn. She does get both pronounciations so that is defintely something to bear in mind Smile

My Dd is Evelyn - we say Everlyn but she gets eve-lyn all the time.
We call her Lynnie for short. :)

As Chaffinch said I think it technically depends if it is being used as a male or female name - are thinking for a son or daughter?
