Maxwell or just Max?

Which do you prefer?

I'm just adding it to a long list at the moment, so could quite easily be neither!

Maximilian?

Max works well as a stand alone name - I don't think you need to have a longer option on the birth certificate. However if you love Maxwell and would call him that, go for it!

I prefer Max
What about Maximilian? I love it!

Max

Maximus reminds me too much of the word maximum and also Gadiator. Based on DH and DD, I think our DS is likely to be on the slender side, so maybe not terribly gladiatorial.

Maximilian is nice, but not sure if it's a bit much maybe? I don't usually like boy names ending in n with our surname but that would work if we liked the name enough.

Just Max.

Just Max, unless you really like Maxwell.

I think maxwell is awesome.

I like both. Maxwell for bc and Max for every day. One of my children is Max for every day but has a longer name on the bc.

This is outing, but my dh middle name is maxwell and he absolutely despises it.

Report
WishingCarrot · 18/10/2017 22:13

I quite like it though.

My Max is just Max. I don't really like the longer versions of the name.

Thinking about it I quite like Maxwell... Max is great too.

Maxwell, Maximilian or Maximus. Then just call him Max for short.

Using just "Max" on the official forms is short changing your child.

Report
Mantegnaria · 19/10/2017 07:03

They aren't "longer versions of the name". "Max" is a shortened nickname for people with those longer names.

Thanks all for comments. DH likes Max. I'm not sure about Maxwell, but it's grown on me over time. Maximilian is nice too, I just think it could be a bit too much. DH doesn't like that either.

Could very well end up being neither as I'm not sure I like Max enough to use on the bc.

Love the idea that I've 'short changed my child' by calling him Max Grin

Max is a name in its own right. Maximus and Maximilian sound too much to my ear and I don't like Maxwell.

Fwiw I don't think you've "short changed" your DS coffee!

I think of Max as a name in its own right. I usually prefer a long name on the bc, but Max is one of those short names which doesn't 'need' it imo. Same with Leo. I do like the name Max, I just don't like it quite enough to use it on its own.

I'm not totally sold on Maxwell either, but it is growing on me. I think (from google only) that it's a Scottish name? I tend to like Scottish names as a few of my favourites are Scottish names (vetoed by DH).

I think it's going to end up being something other than Max. DH chose dd's name, (though I love it now). I'm not having a name I don't completely love this time.

There's also Maxim/ Maxym/ Maksym, or the gorgeous Welsh name Macsen (which I have also seen spelled as Maxsen).
