Not Margaret...would be Maggie.
Immediate thought...Simpsons right??
Don't think I'm sold, neither is dh but we have nothing so anything goes right now.
What you all think?

MikeUniformMike Mon 09-Oct-17 21:09:48

It's a yes from me.

TheQueenOfWands Mon 09-Oct-17 21:12:44

I think of Maggie Esmeralda from AHS Freak Show.

Or Maggie from The Walking Dead.

I love it. It's one of my favourite names.

Mum2jenny Mon 09-Oct-17 21:18:05

A no from me for Maggie, but have you considered Marguerite, Magnolia, Madalena, rather than Margaret? There are other options if you google it though.

addler Mon 09-Oct-17 21:23:31

I LOVE Maggie. It’s near the top of my list.

OyyVeyy Mon 09-Oct-17 21:25:02

Makes me think first of Margaret Thatcher - which to me is not good. At all.

But then the Simpsons & Rod Stewart - which is better! smile

Well you did ask.

TheGirlOnTheLanding Mon 09-Oct-17 21:25:06

I'm of an age that it's still ... Thatcher for me. So a no.

Tollygunge Mon 09-Oct-17 21:26:02

Thatcher. Ewwww

Liadain Mon 09-Oct-17 21:26:14

In certain places Maggie automatically = Thatcher - it definitely does to me. I'm not loving it on that basis.

DandySeaLioness Mon 09-Oct-17 21:26:46

reminds me of the Maggi sauce and maggie gyllenhaal

xflipflopx Mon 09-Oct-17 21:30:08

Oh I forgot about Thatcher! confused
Just don't know if Maggie would suit for all stages especially teens.
Haven't considered any of those names mum2jenny they seem about out there to me.
Thanks though.

I think I like it- quite classic but underused.

I say 'think' because I'm not sure about the harsh 'gg' sound.

RaininSummer Mon 09-Oct-17 21:33:42

I like it a lot.

Very nice.

DramaAlpaca Mon 09-Oct-17 22:44:19

I don't like it, I find it very harsh. And it reminds me of Thatcher.

Sophronia Tue 10-Oct-17 00:41:22

Thatcher is my first thought.

Flippingecktucker Tue 10-Oct-17 01:25:36

Maggie is a perennially cool name, I think.

Mrsknackered Tue 10-Oct-17 01:29:43

I love it. No bad connotations over here.

Margaret Thatcher was no Maggie in my books.

pipilangstrumpf Tue 10-Oct-17 07:55:18

Maggi is a well known cooking sauce.

I love Magdalena or Marguerite though!

bridgetreilly Tue 10-Oct-17 10:33:57

I think Maggie is a great choice. She could still be Mags or Mag or whatever if she wants, and I don't think Maggie sounds too girly or informal if she needs a serious professional name later in life.

And Maggie Thatcher is a LONG time ago. By the time your Maggie is grown up, it'll be like someone called Winston now.

Smoliver Tue 10-Oct-17 11:04:19

I knew a Maggie at school as a teenager who really didn't like her name. I think she's okay with it now though as an adult.

I always thought it was cute though, so I guess it's to each their own with this name.

Pemba Tue 10-Oct-17 11:38:50

The 'ag' sound is very harsh. That's why I don't like Agatha or Agnes (in the English pronunciation) either. Also, it's not a complete name, but Margaret is a bit stuffy anyway. Also Thatcher.

Choccyhobnob Tue 10-Oct-17 12:19:49

I really like it and can totally see it on a teenager
