As the thread title suggests really. This is our list:

Rory
Toby / Tobias
Lewis
Christopher / Christian (we would shorten to Kit until he was old enough to choose a shortening)
Robin / Robert
Samuel
Sebastian
Gabriel
Albert
Matthew

Opinions and suggestions much appreciated.

Rory - I like it but it's growing in popularity. I know too 1 year old Rory's. I actually prefer it as a shortening for Gregory

Toby / Tobias - I adore Tobias but dislike Toby so cant use it.

Lewis - I fibd it boring sorry

Christopher / Christian (we would shorten to Kit until he was old enough to choose a shortening). Like Both and Kit for short

Robin / Robert - love Robin, find Robert dull and dated

Samuel - lovely name

Sebastian - I like it but know so many

Gabriel - like it

Albert - not a fan

Matthew - like but prefer Matthias and Matteo

Are you me?!!! We are having twin boys and our list is very similar to yours!!

My favourites of your list are
Rory - DD probably would've been one, may use if our other twin name doesn't end in an -ee sound.
Toby - I think there's a good chance one of our boys will be a Toby, I also like Tobin.
Lewis - we both like, but DH prefers Louis but pronounce Loo-is... I think it's a recipe for confusion. But a definite contender.
Christopher - so tricky, I LOVE this name but Chris is so meh, though fine once a bit older, I like Kit but our surname is short one syllable so just not sure it will work. Whereas three syllables sounds great with our surname. I keep saying it and trying to decide if Christopher will just end up shortened regardless - my good friend has an Alexander and I find it almost impossible not to call him Alex or Al, it's terrible
Robin - love but we know quite a few Robins and Robyns amongst close friends so probably won't use
Samuel - v close friend with a Samuel so probably won't use
Sebastian - very popular around here and i know lots. Dislike "Sebby" intensely.
Gabriel - only put on our list last weekend. Flows well with our surname just a bit put off by inevitable nicknames which I know is silly.
Albert - not on our list. I prefer Alfred, would love an Alfie but probably not brave enough.
Matthew - love love love, always my favourite boys name ever but inevitable Matt puts me off a bit now it's a possibility. We know so many adult Matts. They're all perfectly nice, but ...

Our list is a fair bit longer than yours, here are some others on ours:
Leo (very popular in some areas though including our town)
Henry (I adore this but it is ridiculously popular where we are)
Elliot, Ellis (unlikely to use as DD's name starts El)
Owen
Rufus
Edwin / Edmund
Arthur
Patrick
Douglas / Dougal
Benjamin / Benedict
Rowan
Torin
Ivan / Ivor / Ivo
Lawrence / Laurence

J names are out for us probably as I think they sound silly with our surname, but I like Jacob, Joseph, Joel, Jonah and Jonas.
I also like Daniel but that is the names of DH's brother.

pipilangstrumpf · 21/09/2017 14:22

My faves are Rory, Gabriel and Albert.

How about
Cassius
Quentin
Arthur

DramaAlpaca · 21/09/2017 14:26

What a nice list Smile. I used one of those names and considered most of the rest, apart from Albert and Robin which I like the least. You won't go far wrong with any of that list, IMO.

Acidophilus · 21/09/2017 14:30

I love all of them except Robert which seems dull. I would also avoid Christopher in case he became Chris which is also dull. I used to love Kit but the Rooneys spoiled it for me.

I love the rest, especially Rory, Robin and Albert (nn Abbie).

TempsPerdu · 21/09/2017 15:07

Lovely list OP! Gabriel, Tobias and Robin were all on our boys' list for this baby, but we're expecting a girl. Our other choices were Nicholas (Nico), Laurence, Rufus and Archer.

I also like Rory and Christopher/Kit but have the same issue that others have with Chris. Quite like Matthew too, and it seems a bit less popular than it used to be. Samuel is a bit meh (I'm a teacher and have taught so many!) and I'm not keen on Albert, Lewis or Sebastian (which just seems too fussy for me, plus I don't like the potential nicknames).

MammieBear · 21/09/2017 15:20

Go for any of them all fine names.

Camomila · 21/09/2017 15:24

We have v similar name tastes :)

For DS I also considered
Leo
Francis
Alexander
Nicholas
Theodore

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/09/2017 15:48

My boy is going to be Gabriel.
I like all your names aside from
Samuel Robin and Matthew. Although I prefer Louis to Lewis.

Winteriscomingneedmorewood · 21/09/2017 15:50

My ds is Gabriel. Never has nn or anything but Gabriel.

CherriesInTheSnow · 21/09/2017 15:53

I adore the name Tobias! Our heart is set of Felix but Tobias was a close second for us :)

Robin was our first choice of boys name with our first baby and is actually our DDs middle name now!

I do like Rory even if I wouldn't use it myself, prefer Christopher to Christian, quite like Samuel but the rest are a little dull or dated to me :(

Smoliver · 21/09/2017 17:24

Rory - Love this name. I think it's cute on a young boy but I can't imagine it on a grown man.
Tobias - Love this name too. My friends younger brother is named this and he is one of the kindest, sweetest boys I've met.
Lewis - Great name too. I wouldn't use it myself but I think this is a great classic name that isn't too popular either.
Christopher / Christian - I prefer Christopher to Christian (makes me think of Christopher Robin). Don't like the nickname Chris but I like your idea of using the nn Kit. So unique.
Robin / Robert - Not a fan of Robert but I love Robin.
Samuel - Samuel is on my list, that's how much I love it. Another great classic that isn't popular at the moment.
Sebastian - my 4 year old cousin is named this. We call him Seb or Sebby for short.
Gabriel - not really a fan of this one. It's a nice name but I just don't love it.
Albert - I like this name, and the nicknames Albie or Bert are both adorable.
Matthew - I like this name but I've known many guys called Matthew or Matt before. Your other names are a bit more unique in my opinion.

NinonDeLenclos · 21/09/2017 17:48

Like Sebastian & Rory - prefer the Irish or Scottish spelling Ruairi or Ruairidh as it's less Sloaney - & Gabriel.

Much prefer Louis to Lewis.

Matthey/Toby/Sam - too common.

pilates · 21/09/2017 17:57

Rory is my favourite from your list, the rest are okay except Gabriel which I strongly dislike

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 21/09/2017 21:24

Thanks all.

I love Rory, but agree it's getting more popular. I like the Irish version, but it isn't pronounced the same as Rory and I think it would clash with our dd's name a bit. I also don't know if our son would suit Rory. He's likely to be pale, tall, blonde and quite skinny!

Louis gets massacred in my accent, unless I affect a French accent (which I'm not planning on doing with my ds's name). Lewis also sounds a bit funny, so don't know if I should discount it. I like it though and I think it has a literary ring to it (CS Lewis, Lewis Carroll etc) rather than a French monarch ring to it (which I seem to get from Louis).

I love Gabriel so much! I can only think of Gabe as a shortening, which I actually love. DH isn't mad about it though, but maybe it will grow on him between now and the birth.

I agree with posters who have mentioned Chris and Matt as shortenings; I know lots of each from my own generation. It's kind of off putting. Our surname is really common too, so "Matt Surname" sounds just like someone I could have worked with at some point iyswim. If someone said "you know Matt Surname?" I'd probably have to rack my brains, as it's very possible I know someone of that name already!

Thanks for other suggestions. I like Francis and Arthur a lot, but DH doesn't Sad.

Should say; "Lewis sounds a bit funny in my accent"

OP posts:
Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/09/2017 21:29

I love Matthew and Rory from your list.
Louis is nicer than Lewis.

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 21/09/2017 21:31

I really can't say Louis. Honestly. It comes out completely unintelligible.

VinIsGroot · 21/09/2017 21:42

Ideas From your list ...can I suggest....

Solomon and also Roan!!!!

CarriMarie · 21/09/2017 21:43

My favourite is Tobias/Toby, or how about using Kristian spelling, more likely to get Kit nn?

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 21/09/2017 22:59

Gabriel can also be shortened to Bree or Abe if that's any help. Other than that I'd say Christian over Christopher, and Samuel is a great name but then I'm biased

buttercup54321 · 21/09/2017 23:05

I know a Christian in his 30s. He absolutely hates it and all the religious jokes he gets.
Christopher
Matthew
Samuel
Robert

William
Daniel
Simon
Timothy
James
