Good morning Brew

DS2 will be here in a few weeks, really need to decide by Tuesday as we've got the interior designers coming round design the nursery.

Which do you like better?
Prince
Or
Kwame.

Thanks.

Kwame

just googled Kwame and its of Ghanian origin, and means a boy born on a Saturday.
Nice name, as long as you have Ghanian heritage and your son is born on a Saturday.

Prince - not so much...

Kwame.

How do you pronounce Kwame?

I like Prince better but they are both nice.

Yes, I should have asked, what would you do if he didn't turn up on a Saturday.

Use the relevant day name for that day?

If you're not prepared to do that, then Prince wouid be the better choice (but it's not a name I like, along with all other honorifics)

Are you Ghanaian? Not saying you can't use the name Kwame, just saying that it has a very specific meaning.

And why do you need to decide for the sake of decorating.... What happens if baby is born and you don't like the name as it doesn't suit.....

just checked and there are loads of great names for each day of the week!
My Ghanaian friend is called Kofi, so he must have been born on a Friday Smile

You're having interior designers round to decorate a nursery??

Why do you have to decide by the time they get here? Surely everything has been sorted? And the name (if you're planning on putting it in the wall or something can come later?)

Hey

Yes I know that Kwame is a Ghanaian name Smile I am not Ghanaian and neither is DP he is from a Nigerian background but he likes the name Kwame.

And I could just imagine in a few years time DS2 asking if he was born in a Saturday.

@SonicBoomBoom - It's pronounced KWAA-Mey

@Believeitornot - Because we need to personalise things.

Another name that a crossed off the list was Kwesi.

DS1 is named Major as much as Prince would match I think it would be a little too much.

DS1 is named Major? You should definitely go for Thatcher.

Or Tom.

I prefer Kwame. I'm not sure how much the meaning name matters. Many names have meanings and most do not apply to the person. Said, "born on a Saturday" is quite specific :)

although I preferred Kwame anyway, I think I would avoid Prince given your eldest son's name - I am imagining sibling battles where they argue about who out ranks who.

I worked with a Kwame. It grew on me.

Kwame, definitey.
Pretty sure that's Tinchy Striders real name?
Don't like prince at all.

No, just checked, his name is Kwasi.
Ignore me

That would never happen, why would it? Hmm

You could go back to Kwesi if he's born on Sunday.

It's not so much whether he will ask about what day he was born, rather that all those who come from this naming tradition will assume that it has been properly conferred.

I knew a Kwame at school , nice boy , so positive feeling there. I'd choose that over Prince.

Congratulations by the way.

"That would never happen, why would it?"

You and your DH both only children??

Siblings will squabble about everything and anything, and a big, obvious stick to poke the other is, I think, worth avoiding.

Spudlet · 21/09/2017 08:01

Kwame is nice. Not quite so keen on Prince (and yes, I can foresee sibling arguments about such things, kids being what they are... although they do grow out of it eventually)

Prince is a title not a name so Kwame would be better plus I like its meaning.

@HailLapin - Thanks BrewCake
@AnguaResurgam - DS1 is 6 years, and I doubt that he will be arguing with his little brother.

Yes I've got siblings, I'm a twin yes me and him did used to argue about things, I never remember arguing with my younger brother as we were born years apart.

Because they are kids.

No need for a sceptical face.
