Thoughts on Millicent? Do you know any?
Also how many Milly's do you know?

Milly's okay. I'm not super thrilled about it. I only know of 2. I can't stand Millicent. It sounds like a witch.

I love it. If I had a dd she would be Millicent.

Millicent just makes me think of millipedes.

Millie's and Milly's all over the place, not come across any Millicent's nn Millie as far as I know.

I always rather liked Camilla nn Millie as a pp has already mentioned but should I ever use the name Camilla, I'd now strongly lean towards no nickname, because Millie is so commonly heard including on my dog

Have a friend called Milly. Much prefer it as stand alone name than as dimin of Camilla or Amelia.

It's probably more common now than it was when we were growing up. In the 80s it was quite unusual.

I think it's awful. As mentioned above I always think of millipedes and witches. It's just not got a nice sound imo.

Oh, and I know two Millicents. Both primary age. One goes by Mimi and the other has no nickname.

Too similar to malificent the wicked witch

I don't like Millicent. It sounds like militant. It's very harsh sounding. The witch link is from The Worst Witch I think....they were called Maud and Millicent.

I know a few Millie's. but not loads and all between 5 and 12. No little ones.

I do know about 20 dogs called Millie though.

Such a beautiful name, and I love that it's both traditional and unusual.

Love Millicent, not so keen on Millie

Don't mind Millicent (although I do hear 'militant' which is quite harsh)...but a Milly/Millie is a bit of a derogatory term for a girl in parts of N.Ireland so I'd personally avoid it for that reason. Still quite like it though!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/09/2017 23:44

Ah Maleficent, that's it

I know a Millicent nn Millie who's in her 20s. I think it's lovely!

I quite like it, but Milly as a short name is a bit wishy-washy. I love Maud!

The Worst Witch was Mildred, not Millicent.

It is a magical name though now you mention it - there's a not very nice one in Harry Potter, and a lovely one in Chrestomanci (although she's technically an enchantress I think).

It's a lovely old fashioned name for a girl

Report
SuperBeagle · 21/09/2017 08:49

Don't like it at all. Frumpy, harsh sort of name.

Millie is fine though.
