Thoughts on Millicent? Do you know any?
Also how many Milly's do you know?

Awwlookatmybabyspider Wed 20-Sep-17 20:25:25

Milly's okay. I'm not super thrilled about it. I only know of 2. I can't stand Millicent. It sounds like a witch.

Love millicent hate milly

littlecabbages Wed 20-Sep-17 20:45:49

I’ve not heard of it before. I would assume a boy for some reason confused

stellarfox Wed 20-Sep-17 22:08:53

Not keen. Prefer Camilla nn Millie

AndNoneForGretchenWieners Wed 20-Sep-17 22:10:09

I love it. If I had a dd she would be Millicent.

DramaAlpaca Wed 20-Sep-17 22:10:43

Millicent just makes me think of millipedes.

Alisvolatpropiis Wed 20-Sep-17 22:11:18

Millie's and Milly's all over the place, not come across any Millicent's nn Millie as far as I know.

I always rather liked Camilla nn Millie as a pp has already mentioned but should I ever use the name Camilla, I'd now strongly lean towards no nickname, because Millie is so commonly heard including on my dog

TatianaLarina Wed 20-Sep-17 22:49:48

Have a friend called Milly. Much prefer it as stand alone name than as dimin of Camilla or Amelia.

It's probably more common now than it was when we were growing up. In the 80s it was quite unusual.

Liadain Wed 20-Sep-17 23:04:13

I think it's awful. As mentioned above I always think of millipedes and witches. It's just not got a nice sound imo.

Liadain Wed 20-Sep-17 23:04:59

Oh, and I know two Millicents. Both primary age. One goes by Mimi and the other has no nickname.

indigo13 Wed 20-Sep-17 23:07:09

It's a beautiful name

Awwlookatmybabyspider Wed 20-Sep-17 23:11:32

Wasnt that the name of the wicked fairy in Sleeping Beauty

sonlypuppyfat Wed 20-Sep-17 23:14:13

We call front bottoms millys in this house

Buttercupsandaisies Wed 20-Sep-17 23:15:17

Too similar to malificent the wicked witch

NuffSaidSam Wed 20-Sep-17 23:17:46

I don't like Millicent. It sounds like militant. It's very harsh sounding. The witch link is from The Worst Witch I think....they were called Maud and Millicent.

I know a few Millie's. but not loads and all between 5 and 12. No little ones.

I do know about 20 dogs called Millie though.

BeBeatrix Wed 20-Sep-17 23:23:37

Such a beautiful name, and I love that it's both traditional and unusual.

PointlessUsername Wed 20-Sep-17 23:26:11

I only known 1 Millicent, she is 14.

I really Like it but Millie i am not so keen on

MrsApplepants Wed 20-Sep-17 23:36:45

Love Millicent, not so keen on Millie

euanthesheepiloveyou Wed 20-Sep-17 23:42:57

Don't mind Millicent (although I do hear 'militant' which is quite harsh)...but a Milly/Millie is a bit of a derogatory term for a girl in parts of N.Ireland so I'd personally avoid it for that reason. Still quite like it though!

Awwlookatmybabyspider Wed 20-Sep-17 23:44:00

Ah Maleficent, that's it

Rogue1234 Wed 20-Sep-17 23:46:13

I know a Millicent nn Millie who's in her 20s. I think it's lovely!

NameChangeFamousFolk Thu 21-Sep-17 01:22:33

I quite like it, but Milly as a short name is a bit wishy-washy. I love Maud!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Thu 21-Sep-17 01:34:13

The Worst Witch was Mildred, not Millicent.

It is a magical name though now you mention it - there's a not very nice one in Harry Potter, and a lovely one in Chrestomanci (although she's technically an enchantress I think).

MammieBear Thu 21-Sep-17 08:44:13

It's a lovely old fashioned name for a girl
