Need a longer name to be shortened to Mollie.

35/40 Bump is called Mollie which we like but I want her to have a name that we can shorten so her nickname is Mollie. I'm not sure Mollie is very professional for when older.
I can only think of Margaret which I'm sure about.

I think Mollie is a lovely name and fine for all ages. The only other name which it is traditionally short for (that I know of) is Mary.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I'm really not sure about whether is its professional enough or not. I can't imagine an orthopaedic surgeon being called Mollie for example or a Headmistress. I just love the name so much. Tough one.

I feel Molly stands very well as a full name - I know several adult Mollys.

Mollie feels a bit more cutesy or nicknames and is perhaps a bit less traditional but is still fine as a name - I don't think it is usually used as a short form for anything.

If you really do want a full name though perhaps any name starting with M and with an L could work, although as Molly would t be a natural shortening they might end up being given a different nickname when at school or choosing another for themselves in later life:

If you like Mollie I would probably just go for Mollie (or Molly) as the full name.

Molly is definitely not just a child's name. I know of a few adult Mollys- one of which is a senior member of staff in a hospital! (Not an orthopaedic surgeon though...)

Anything with 'ma' so Amanda would work. Millicent (although makes me think of millipede). I was wracking my brains for Moll Flanders' real name but I font think she reveals it.

My grandmother was Mary Ann but known as Molly. Most of the women from the Irish side of my family are Mary (plus another middle name). Most use their middle names not Mary, but a couple use Molly.

We've got Mary Ann, Mary Margaret, Mary Jaqueline, Mary Ellen, Mary Bernadette, Mary Alice and so on...

Mary Ann could be anything she wanted to be. It's a respectable name for anyone.

Maryann is great. Or Marianne. But if you like just Mollie, then use just Mollie. 20 years form now there will be surgeons called Daisy, Flo, Millie etc so nothing wrong with Mollie!
