It is very Harry Potter, but I met an old one today. Thoughts?

Justhadmyhaircut Mon 03-Jul-17 16:55:01

The fact you state you saw an old one today speaks volumes..
Leave it in the past where it belongs!!

FruitTwist2017 Mon 03-Jul-17 16:55:45

What about as a middle name?

Reeeeeally bad.

DeepPuddleHorse22 Mon 03-Jul-17 17:02:01

Very HP to me and he was an awful character

DeepPuddleHorse22 Mon 03-Jul-17 17:02:17

Plus his nn would be Dud

Lovingitlovingit Mon 03-Jul-17 17:02:22

It makes me think of Dudley said in a jokey exaggerated Birmingham accent.

Bluntness100 Mon 03-Jul-17 17:03:25

Dudley was not a good character in Harry Potter. You can't name your kid that.

WindwardCircle Mon 03-Jul-17 17:03:40

I know a primary aged one, but I'm not keen. It just makes me think of Lenny Henry saying "I'm from Dudley" in a thick midlands accent.

FruitTwist2017 Mon 03-Jul-17 17:04:49

Well, 10 were born last year smile thank you for the replies!

islandsandshores Mon 03-Jul-17 17:06:52

Rowling uses rather obvious clues to the character in naming them.

Dudley didn't happen by mistake!

megletthesecond Mon 03-Jul-17 17:11:27

Not as a first name. They'd be forever putting up with harry potter related teasing.

Middle name would be ok.

n0ne Mon 03-Jul-17 17:27:37

Not being an HP fan, I only think of Dudley Moore. So I like it.

MammieBear Mon 03-Jul-17 17:33:31

Each to their own at the end of the day, I quite like it as a name for a little boy. I Put it in the same category as Rufus, Monty, Bruno.

ems137 Mon 03-Jul-17 18:28:54

I can only say it in a heavily exaggerated Birmingham accent too 😂

Wolfiefan Mon 03-Jul-17 18:29:56

Me too. Dudley said in a Dudley accent!
Douglas instead?

LovePeaceAndHarmony Mon 03-Jul-17 18:31:11

I like it.

Flumplet Mon 03-Jul-17 18:40:59

Naow becuz yow hastuh saaaay it "Duhdlaaaay"

Or you do around here anyway.

Orangebird69 Mon 03-Jul-17 18:42:20

I had a cat called Dudley. Best cat ever. I loved him so much. So no, I wouldn't call my child Dudley. But that's the only reason.

Wolfiefan Mon 03-Jul-17 18:42:25

Flumplet grin
That's exactly how I hear it! wink

MyFavouriteName Mon 03-Jul-17 18:44:04

Flumplet grin perfect

KatherinaMinola Mon 03-Jul-17 18:45:01

It makes me think of Dudley said in a jokey exaggerated Birmingham accent

That was exactly how I said it to myself as I opened this thread...
