Stephenson or Williamson?

We don't think double-barrelling is a good idea: they end in the same sound and are both long! We each think our surname is the best Wink which do you prefer?

How about you blend them Into Wevenson or Stelliamson

NataliaOsipova · 12/06/2017 18:19

Depends on the first name! Stephen Williamson is better than Stephen Stephenson....and vice versa!

Goodness @MikeUniformMike they're horrific! Grin

First name is Noah.

Williamson is slightly easier to say.
That is a tough problem.

The other option is that you go for a completely different name altogether and you all change your names.

@SnickersWasAHorse we would rather not. Not to be rude, but we don't really see the point in doing that!

Go for the least popular.

When you get married what name are you going to use?

Report
21Dukeee · 12/06/2017 18:27

@Pestilentialone 1. How do you know we're not married? 2. How do you know we're going to get married? 🤔

@ThroughThickAndThin01 do you know how I could find that out? Smile

21Dukee, I was only joking. I would go for your partner's surname and use William/Stephen or Williamson/Stephenson as a middle name.
Noah Steve Williamson sounds nice.

Neither are really better or easier, they're fairly similar tbh.

If you're not married, go with yours, it's just easier all round.

If you are, um, Rock Paper Scissors?

Just googled it! The list I found had them at:-

169. Williamson
230. Stevenson
231. Stephenson

Good point may be that the Stevenson plus Stephensons make more than Williamsons.!

S is slightly futher up the alphabet, I have a "W" surname and hated being back of the queue/last out at school!
So I'd go with Stephenson for that reason only!

Williamson purely because it's less likely to get misspelled. I like them both though. And I think Stephenson-Williamson would be an ace double barrel. Whenever the athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson is on TV I think how good her name sounds.

Report
kimlo · 12/06/2017 18:38

I would either use Stephenson, or I would double barrel to Stephen-Williams.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 12/06/2017 18:41

I think Noah goes better with Stephenson.

The h gets a bit lost in the w in Noah Williamson.

Not a huge problem though 😀

I don't think you'll be able to decide this based on whose name is 'better'! Your options are:

  • pick one
  • blend
  • double barrel
  • pick a new name

It's always the woman who comprises and we've been compromising for centuries. Maybe it's time for the men to be on the back foot a bit.

But I agree with the pp - if you're going purely on which works best, Noah goes better with Stephenson

Lemonnaise · 12/06/2017 19:13

Noah Stephenson sounds better to me, lovely name.

Noah William Stephenson sounds lovely

Stephenson is my surname 🙈 I really like the idea of putting William/Stephen as a middle name. He'd be Noah Reuben William Stephenson - is it too long? We really want Reuben to stay.

It's fine. Don't use William-Stephenson as a surname, It's naff.

SumAndSubstance · 12/06/2017 19:50

Williamson is slightly easier to say.

I think Stephenson is! And I also think Noah goes better with it. I don't think his name is too long. He won't use the whole thing often anyway.

MimiSunshine · 12/06/2017 20:00

Go for the 2 middle names. It's fine, once you e announced the name people don't really bother about middle names.

Are you likely to have any more children? I'd go with Noah Ruben Stephen Williamson so that if you ever a had girl you could use Stephanie Williamson as a 2nd middle and surname
