Hi i know these names are not to everyone's taste but we are after a name that is more "nicknamey" like these aboveGrin(we might have a longer name on BC depending on the name)

Would love more suggestions Grin

Horrible. Keep in mind that you are naming an adult, not a baby. Or a cat or a teddy bear.

They do sound bit teddy bear/dog. Couldn't you go with a name that might work better for an adult but come up with nickname when they're little?

You're going to need a longer name on the BC for after this child stops being a toddler.

OP seriously, would you genuinely want to go through life called Binky?

If you want to call your child eg Matilda with Tilly for short that fine but please, please don't saddle some poor person with Binky and no alternative.

I have a friend who applied to change her name on her 16th birthday because her name caused her such distress.

I like unusual names, my own children have unusual names but please bear in mind you are naming an adult, not a baby.

I will put longer name on BC, unless we go with one that is acceptable as full name Smile Thanks for the suggestions! (keep them coming Wink)

We went for a nicknamey name for one of our DC and put the longer name on their BC. That child has always been known by the nickname version but is now very glad that they have a 'formal' name too. I'd strongly encourage you to give your child that option. We almost didn't put the longer version on the BC and I'm really glad that we did.

Please, please do not use Binky. Any Terry Pratchett fan you might meet will automatically think of Death's horse! Admittedly Death did call his horse this because he thought it was a pretty name, but for me and several million others this WILL be the main association.

I have not one but two of these nicknames Grin.

I have a three syllable BC name which I couldn't pronounce correctly as a child. Everyone knows what this name is, but I'm called by one or other of the two nicknames by almost everyone I know, even in middle age.

Like many other things on Mumsnet, I think your social class will affect your reaction to it.
