Surname is 1 syllabul we were always going to use john as middle name as both grandads called that but now its going to be jack or james we arent so keen. Original choice was Harry john, which would work but not jack john. Best friend just had a boy called harry so out of question now. Tia.

My son James has Stephen as his second name, after his great grandfather. I think it fits very well regardless of surname, But I am biased!

You're right about John not fitting with ether of those names, but what about Jonathon? James Jonathon is quite catchy sounding. His mates could call him JJ.

We thought james arthur then remembered about the singer! 😂 but elliot was also a contender so i really like james elliot as the name!

Rockaby Thu 01-Jun-17 09:39:33

James Jonathan is nice. James Elliot lovely! I'd go for James Elliot.

booellesmum Thu 01-Jun-17 09:45:46

I would use John.
It is what you intended and has family connections.
It will be lovely for him to know his name has meaning.
After a few weeks no one else ever thinks about the middle name.
My kids are 15 and 12 and the only time middle names come up is on application forms.

booellesmum Thu 01-Jun-17 09:48:21

Adding - I would also stick with Harry though if it is still your first choice.
Why can't he have the same name as your friends little boy?

Sugarpiehoneyeye Thu 01-Jun-17 14:47:15

Aren't Jack and John the same name? One of those odd ones, where Jack's short for John even though they are the same length?

Anyway:

William
Henry
Michael
Finlay

James Logan is my favourite name for a boy

LadyMonicaBaddingham Sat 03-Jun-17 21:31:37

I'd go for James Daniel because I think it's lovely but I'm biased wink

Nooneno1 Sat 03-Jun-17 21:46:05

Im not allowed james now as its my brothers name angry didnt think it would be an issue but apparently so!

LorLorr2 Sun 04-Jun-17 01:10:29

Aw no. Jamie? Josh? Jacob?

PitilessYank Sun 04-Jun-17 01:15:11

If the first and last names are monosyllabic, I would choose a middle name with two syllables, because the full name would sound maximally rhythmic that way.

zeebeedee Sun 04-Jun-17 22:30:54

So if Jack and John are the same, and you now can't use James, what about Jack Harry? (or John Harry?)

Dixiestamp Mon 05-Jun-17 12:04:12

Rhys

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Mon 05-Jun-17 13:53:37

Im not allowed james now as its my brothers name says who?

If you can't use James and don't know what goes with Jack I would stick wih Harry. In fact Harry Elliot sounds great.
Why should your friend get sole use of Harry just because she was lucky enough to conceive a few weeks' before you did, sorry.
