Hi all,

What do you think about the name Lydia Beatrice? Our surname rhymes with rain.

Baby due in July so I still have time to think, husband and I like traditional names, Lydia is my late Nan's middle name, and Beatrice DH's favourite Shakespeare female character (he is an English teacher!)

Other sort of names we quite like: Matilda, Evelyn, Sophia but worried about popularity of these.

Any other suggestions as I am still not sure?

Many thanks

I really like it and much prefer it to Matilda, Evelyn and Sophia.

Thank you everyone, you have all made me feel a lot better about the name-I have been desperate to ask peoples opinions for reassurance as its such a big decision but we haven't mentioned it to any friends or family as we thought it would be a good idea to leave it as a surprise.

Ooh, I love Lydia. Have done for decades (way before 'old lady' names became cool).

Love both names and work well together. Good idea not to tell names to family. Just throw out other suggestions if they ask but keep those ones close to your chest.

I don't like it, but I went to school with a girl whose sister was known as "Lydia Chlamydia" Hmm so that's burned into my mind.

Lydia Beatrice is classic and beautiful.

For me they're quite random to put together because I think of Lydia as a 'new' name and Beatrice as 'old'- but of course that's not actually the case, as evident by your nan having Lydia as a middle name!
Overall unique and romantic Smile

They go beautifully together. (Lydia is not a new name)

Lovely. I prefer Beatrice to Lydia though - but that's because I always think of the rather unappealing Lydia Bennet from Pride and Prejudice. But with it being your nan's name, it will have a different association.

There was a thread recently about "if you could change your name what would it be?" and I chose Lydia. Do it's a YES from me. And Beatrice is lovely too Smile

Beautiful name - I love the name Lydia but I can't use it as I'm fairly closely connected to one. Goes beautifully with Beatrice.

LOVE it. So much. Exactly that name was in serious contention for DD but I slightly preferred something else with the same -ia ending and two syllable middle name.

I know a Lydia who is called Lid for short which is awful.
