Elma

I came across this name for our DD due soon and it might be pregnancy hormones but I really like the name. What do you think?

I would think 'boy' because of Elmer Fudd.

I think of Elmer the elephant, sorry.

I've only come across it with an old school friend who was originally from Bosnia. I like it.

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. It's your baby you you name her what you want. Plus I think it's a lovely name

What about Velma?

Report
wildflowerfable · 25/05/2017 14:37

It's nice, but does remind ne a little of Elmer the elephant. What matters though is if you like it, as they'll always be someone that doesn't like your choice of name.

The point of Baby Names topic is to get people's opinions on certain names isn't it?

There's no point to posters coming on and saying that "what matters is that you like it or "your baby your choice

Surely.

I know a lovely Scottish Elma and therefore love the name.

My great grandma was called Elva which I think is the coolest name ever. I wish I could use it but unfortunately my grandfather would have to die first. (Strangest family ever).

I have a very lovely Auntie Elma in Ireland. I love it!
However, this wasn't her birth name, more of a nickname that evolved when she was a toddler, as her younger sibling was learning to talk!

I think your hormones are tricking you into thinking this is a good idea. Keep looking, you'll find something nice that you like.

I'm afraid I also thought fud.

I would associate it with the elephant - while it is a nice elephant, I think it would set your DD up for teasing, sorry.

It's my mums name well she's Elizabeth Mary shortened to elma

Report
goldenrachita · 25/05/2017 17:33

I much prefer Alma. Because it's the better known variation and it's quite pretty.

Elma is not terrible but she'll end up another Ellie/Elle and the world has plenty of them already.

Isn't it the anaesthetic cream?

Report
Dontrocktheboat · 25/05/2017 21:48

I like it. But I think as my accent is Scottish the Elmer elephant/ fudd issue doesn't arise.

Like Elva and Alma too.
