Bit like "issues" maybe or "atishoo"? Ashton is nice, and what about Ashley? (Or even Oakley? ). I know someone called Ashley Hulme - he gets called Ash but very rarely would friends calling him Ash actually also use his surname. We didn't call DS2 Gabriel because our surname starts with a B (e.g. Brown) and I worried that Gabe Brown sounded like Gay Brown... wish we'd used it in retrospect - nobody using the abbreviation is going to say the surname. If you like it, go for it.
