Esme, Grace is very popular.

Or Esme Grace?

I've so know a couple of Graces, I thought it was dropping in popularity.
I don't want her to be one of ten graces in her class though!
Do you know any Esme's? X

I know 4 Graces aged 3 and under, and have never met an Esme.

Esme is a classic and underused, go for it.

I prefer Esme. Depends if other peoples pronunciation would bother you though - some say Es-me, others say Es-may.

I'd hope they would get it if corrected once.
I do like I pronounced both ways though, which is more common? X

I know three Graces, (two toddlers, one adult in her thirties), and three Esmes, (a baby, a toddler and an adult in her seventies, who hates her name and cannot understand why it's gaining in popularity! I still like it though Smile).

Fwiw, I think Grace is more timeless, but there are probably more of them. Esme is a bit trendy ATM, I think.

Both are pretty, but I think I slightly prefer Esme.

Esme

Re pronunciation, two of the Esmes I know are pronounced Es-me. The other is Es-may.

Ah no, what a shame to hear your friend Esme hates her name :( x

I love Esme, I don't know any, but know two called Grace.

Yeah, it baffles me op as it's so pretty! I think some people do just hate their own names.

I love Esme but it's definitely not underused. It pretty popular round here, but very lovely. The different pronunciations would make me hesitant to use it though - I don't really like "ez-may" and lots of people say it like that regardless of spelling.

Both lovely but Grace gets my vote. Esme sounds in some accents like "there's my..." so make sure your surname isn't a noun like Ball or it could sound like "there's my ball" iyswim.

I think I prefer it pronounced Es-me rather than May but do like both.

Prehaps Grace would be a
Better choice then. Only thing is I'm an Emma and was one of four in my year group at school so I've never really liked it as I was always known by first name and surname!!! X

Grace is a popular but also rather timeless choice imo.
And it's a really sweet choice :)

I'm in London and there's quite a few Esmes popping up all over. I thought it was pretty until I heard a woman screeching like a fish wife through the supermarket "Es-maaaaaaaaay, Es-maaaaaay, get back 'ere!" Ergh, if seemed really ugly to me since then.

So I'll pick Grace!

I like both a lot but Esme a little more. And it's not used as often as Grace.

I don't like Esme, find it a bit sickly sweet, sorry!

Rockaby · 16/05/2017 19:14

Tbh, if you really want to avoid having more than one child of the same name in your DD's class then I wouldn't choose either of these (sorry). Neither of them are super popular, but there's a fair chance she could be Esme surname or Grace surname. That said, there's always a chance of that happening isn't there? I've heard many times of someone picking a name which they thought was really unusual, only to turn up to nursery and there be two others in the same year group!

That's true!
I've heard lots of different names recently!
The most popular girls name where I live is Isabell at the moment! X
