I'm not pregnant or anything.

Just remebering a girl I knew at school called Violet Millicent and wondered how people regarded the name.

With horror. Millipede: unattractive segmented insect with excessive numbers of feet. Cent: tiny amount of money.

Reminds me of the film Flushed Away

Reminds me of Milly Molly Mandy, and millipedes. Lots of millennium babies called Millie I think,

Love it. If I ever had a DD she would be Millicent.

CricketRuntAndRashers Fri 12-May-17 20:28:05

Love it! But currently probably better used as a middle name... Viola Millicent maybe? (I think I'll put it on our middle name list... thanks smile )

SuperBeagle Fri 12-May-17 21:44:01

I don't like it, but I also don't like Millie.

There was a Millicent in One Tree Hill. She started out being a nerd (obv) and ended up being a cocaine addict.

I love it. My mother was Millicent, my middle name is millicent as I was born on her birthday and me long awaited twins one of them has Millicent as a middle name.
So no criticisms of it please lol

Milly Molly Mandy is what I think of.

FizzyGreenWater Sat 13-May-17 08:41:08

Not nice at all I'm afraid. I think of milli = thousand and cent = hundred, so it just seems a really odd and unattractive reference. And the feel is prissy and fussy somehow.

I know a couple of folk that have wanted Millie but given this to have a 'proper' name, but the feel of it is so different that they're both very 'No she is Millicent known as Millie, do NOT call her Millicent!'

I'm all for giving proper names but not when you clearly actually don't like the full name very much-!

Batteriesallgone Sat 13-May-17 08:42:36

Violet Millicent makes me think violent millitant! Don't like Millicent but like Millie.

JennyOnAPlate Sat 13-May-17 08:48:26

I've never met one in real life and think of Millicent bulstrode (Harry potter).

kookiecookie3 Sat 13-May-17 18:29:04

My mum loved Millicent, brought it up in both my previous two pregnancies

PotahtoPotayto Sat 13-May-17 23:07:57

I too, think of millipede whenever I see/hear Millicent.

MusicToMyEars800 Sat 13-May-17 23:09:31
