Hi,
I am due very soon and myself and DH are unsure as whether to name the baby Hannah or Melissa! Any ideas?

ThroughThickAndThin01 Thu 11-May-17 20:25:51

I prefer Hannah.

NannyR Thu 11-May-17 20:26:00

They are both lovely names, why not see which one suits her best when she's born.

PaperdollCartoon Thu 11-May-17 20:26:33

Which sounds best with your surname or middle names?

Thatextrainch Thu 11-May-17 21:03:44

Yes, wait until she's born (however, I find Hannah a bit bland and drippy)

YouWhatMate Thu 11-May-17 21:05:24

I love Hannah.

Loyly Thu 11-May-17 21:06:43

I love Melissa.
Hannah sounds so very 'meh' (sorry).

AdaColeman Thu 11-May-17 21:08:48

Both are lovely, but Melissa is my favourite.

Melissa hands down

Awwlookatmybabyspider Thu 11-May-17 21:26:41

Melissa. Both gorgeous though

BackforGood Thu 11-May-17 21:33:25

I like them both. Know / have met FAR fewer Melissas though, so that would probably tip it in favour of Melissa.

Sophronia Thu 11-May-17 21:39:54

Both lovely. I think Melissa.

HildaOg Thu 11-May-17 21:41:07

Melissa.

DramaAlpaca Thu 11-May-17 21:56:07

Another vote for Melissa.

user18349332 Thu 11-May-17 21:56:52

I think Melissa sounds more feminine somehow.

They are very difficult names though.

Do they sound equally as good with your surname?

FinnegansCake Thu 11-May-17 22:02:05

I prefer Melissa.

Although Dill-Emma is more unusual ...

user18349332 Thu 11-May-17 22:04:34

*DIFFERENT names I meant to say, not difficult.....durrrh! blush

Lemondrop09 Thu 11-May-17 23:33:31

Melissa

It's aaaaaages since I heard of a baby Melissa but I don't think the name is dated at all so not sure why it's not more popular at the moment

Maryam1360 Fri 12-May-17 00:03:01

That is one of concerns whether it is a bit dated! Good to know that you dont think so.

Maryam1360 Fri 12-May-17 00:04:28

Thanks! Doesn't Hannah then look more timeless because of that?

Kimonolady Fri 12-May-17 00:04:49

Melissa is nice, but I like Marissa even more! So just throwing that out there as a suggestion smile

SuperBeagle Fri 12-May-17 00:06:50

Hannah is infinitely nicer.

Hannah is a classic. It will never date. It's feminine, easy to spell and pronounce and has no obvious shortenings. It also has a lovely meaning (favour or grace).

Melissa is outdated and will be shortened to Mel.

Maryam1360 Fri 12-May-17 00:12:48

Marissa makes the dilemma into a thrilema smile

Kimonolady Fri 12-May-17 00:22:00

Haha maryam1360, I seem to have hindered rather than helped! Sorry.
I would say Marissa (if you like it!) or Hannah. The thing that puts me off Melissa is that, like SuperBeagle said, it would be shortened to Mel... I think it's a bit 80s :/

PotahtoPotayto Fri 12-May-17 00:27:22

I love Melissa, and much prefer Anna to Hannah.
