Anthony

Magnus

Phileas (my favourite)

Blaise (I love it... But I'm a bit hesitant because of the meaning. What if a classmate finds out about it when they're a teen? what if our LO does have a lisp?)

Hector

Jonathan

I personally think we're having a boy this time around (I don't want to know in advance)... And we unfortunately still don't have a boy's name. The only one DH vetoed was Severin, btw...

RedStripeIassie Sat 22-Apr-17 14:06:19

Johnathan but not shortens to John.

EllaHen Sat 22-Apr-17 14:06:52

Magnus, then Hector.

EllaHen Sat 22-Apr-17 14:07:30

And I like John but not Jonathan.

Fruitcocktail6 Sat 22-Apr-17 14:09:16

What's the meaning of Blaise?

Asmoto Sat 22-Apr-17 14:11:24

I really like Blaise - sorry for my ignorance, but I don't get the lisp reference. I just think of Blaise Pascal.

Magnus

fruit
I think it comes from a Roman word meaning lisping...

So, if the LO were to have a lisp/speech impediment... Which, Idk. I mean, I don't have any concrete reason to think our DC2 may have one, but still.

As for Jonathan/John... I think John is a perfectly fine nickname. but, considering DH's family, I somewhat doubt the LO will be lucky enough to get something like John...

Magus is my favourite strong man! And name.

Blaise is a Harry Potter name. Blaise Zabini. In the movie version of the last movie he was in the room of requirement with Draco Malfoy smile Great name.

Pinkandwhiteblossoms Sat 22-Apr-17 14:15:38

Jonathan

MikeUniformMike Sat 22-Apr-17 14:24:58

No to Blaise (sorry M. Pascal) and Hector. Jonathan and Anthony a little less unusual. Currently love Magnus (if you don't mind the nickname Maggie)

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite Sat 22-Apr-17 14:26:57

Mike

I actually love the nickname Maggie. It's really sweet imo! smile

Cactus True. I didn't know he was also there in the film... I don't think the association is overly negative amongst young HP fans, is it?

GaladrielsRing Sat 22-Apr-17 14:33:31

I like Blaise.

Prefer Phineas to Phileas

Montsti Sat 22-Apr-17 16:15:44

Jonathan...

Not keen on the others...

Saucery Sat 22-Apr-17 16:20:38

Jonathan or Anthony

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion Sat 22-Apr-17 16:24:47

Magnus is an awesome name. I'd shorten it to Gus, personally.

Then Blaise, Anthony, Phileas and Jonathan.

Loyly Sat 22-Apr-17 16:26:21

Magnus

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite Sat 22-Apr-17 16:29:07

Magnus seems to be the most popular.

Followed by Jonathan and Blaise. Anthony seems to be liked by some.

And nobody likes Phileas, do they?

Interesting. Thanks smile

BounceBounceSplishSplash Sat 22-Apr-17 16:35:50

Magnus is my favourite. Phileas is my least favourite closely followed by Blaise

Sugarpiehoneyeye Sat 22-Apr-17 17:18:46

Jonathan and Anthony are great.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite Sat 22-Apr-17 18:17:13

Nobody seems to like Phileas. I really like the name (and the nicknames)...

Hm...

So, dear mumsnetters, you don't think Blaise is too lisping? Will give any potential bullies a lot of ammunition? Or that I'm just kind of gambling with the possibility of the LO having some sort of speech issue? (I know it's irrational. But pregnancy, also the last time with DD) seems to make me susperstitious...

LagoMaggiore Sat 22-Apr-17 18:20:16

Anthony. Cool NNs, too.

Jooni Sat 22-Apr-17 20:58:24

Love Magnus! Hector is also great.

I dislike Blaise personally, but objectively I don't think it's too lisping or particularly teaseworthy. I actually think a little boy would find it quite cool to have a name that sounds like "Blaze".

Phileas is a bit odd. It makes me think first and foremost of Professor (Filius) Flitwick from Harry Potter, who's a nice positive character but not exactly a cool namesake. I much prefer Phineas, which I think would be a bold but beautiful choice.

SuperBeagle Sat 22-Apr-17 21:18:19

Magnus is the best and Hector the worst. My best friend has a four year old cousin named Hector who lives in the UK and we still crack up over his name. It's so awful. I can't understand it's appeal at all.

Blaise would be difficult for the average kid to pull off because it's so strongly associated with Pascal.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite Sat 22-Apr-17 21:18:55

Jooni Galadriel You've both mentioned Phineas.

I actually do like Phineas. I thought Phileas was a bit more well known than Phineas. Which is why I went for it. I just really like the sound of that name... It didn't make me think of Filius, but Filius is a pretty cool character, isn't it?
