...bear with me!

I know Dawn might evoke images of middle-aged women (all of the Dawns I know are in their 40s and 50s) BUT I saw a picture in a magazine this week with of a beautiful sunrise and the word "dawn" and it made me think about the name in a new way. Could it be a new "nature" name along the lines of Willow, Sage, River etc?!

I really like Dawn! I think it's sweet. Apparently I like old lady names though, my DD is Cecilia and everyone keeps asking if she's named after an older relative grin

I think a resurgence could be coming... you will be a forerunner!

SquedgieBeckenheim Wed 19-Apr-17 13:48:49

I wouldn't use it, but it's a nice name.

LuxuryWoman2017 Wed 19-Apr-17 13:48:50

It's actually a really beautiful name, but... depends how it's said. I hear Dorn (horrid) but pronounced softly it's gorgeous.
It is a 70's kind of name and I don't think it has been seen as a pretty one due to harsh pronunciation. On the fence with it really!

Zoe1983 Wed 19-Apr-17 13:52:33

I like it a lot

Xmasbaby11 Wed 19-Apr-17 13:53:45

No, sounds quite common to me (girls I went to school with. I'm 41). Sorry.

DawnMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 19-Apr-17 14:03:47

Ooh, I was feeling all positive until Xmasbaby commented! wink

I'm 47, btw.

And would love it if the name got a resurgence. Though as Luxury pointed out, it does all depend on how it's said. When I'm buying a coffee and have to give my name, they often write 'Don' on my cup. Not cool!

Jooni Wed 19-Apr-17 14:55:48

I can see it coming back. Not a huge fan of it personally, though (sorry, Dawn!)

MitzyLeFrouf Wed 19-Apr-17 14:59:54

I don't like it. She's best friends with Gail and Sandra.

Nancy91 Wed 19-Apr-17 15:01:57

I think it's lovely, it makes me think of a new beginning - cheesy but I really like it.

NerrSnerr Wed 19-Apr-17 15:43:30

I like it, but I like all buffy names.

YouBloodyWhat Wed 19-Apr-17 15:52:44

When I'm buying a coffee and have to give my name, they often write 'Don' on my cup. Not cool!

But Don is a cooler name than Dawn. You should be happy! grin

littlejeopardy Wed 19-Apr-17 15:55:03

It should be a beautiful name but it reminds me of Dawn in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and she was such a bratty annoying character that it has really put me off the name.

HoratioNightboy Wed 19-Apr-17 15:59:35

I think it depends on the accent, but it's generally a lovely name. I've been punting it as a middle name, or would also be fab as an alternative to Rose, Grace, Mae, etc. for the double-barrelled fans.

I think Elizabeth Dawn sounds lovely.

WindwardCircle Wed 19-Apr-17 15:59:39

I like it, but I think it's still a generation too soon for a resurgent of 70/80s names.

HoratioNightboy Wed 19-Apr-17 16:00:20

I think Elizabeth Dawn sounds lovely.

Aw shit, that's Vera Duckworth, isn't it? Maybe not then!

blue2014 Wed 19-Apr-17 16:02:54

I'm surprised but I really like it smile

<tries out new name>

You're right, I should just go with it grin

I know a Dawn, in her fifties, biggest slag that ever walked the earth. She Had to move a couple of times because wives always seemed to catch up with her. There's a Running joke about being up at the crack of dawn.

She's disgusting my sister.

It's a no from me.

DonMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 19-Apr-17 19:44:42

Oof, that's a bit flipping harsh, Maiden! shock

Am feeling pretty relieved that I changed my username, now...

Alisvolatpropiis Wed 19-Apr-17 20:21:39

I've known two Dawn's. One must be in her 60's now, the other her 30's. Both lovely women, so the name has positive connotations for me.

funnyeddie Wed 19-Apr-17 20:27:43

I love Dawn, I'd picked it out as a daughters name before I found I couldn't have children. It always makes me feel happy xx

SuperBeagle Wed 19-Apr-17 20:31:03

Reminds me of Dawn Fraser, who loves to get on her soapbox and spew some casual racism.
