Spanish baby boy, but will go to an English school (in Spain) smile he is 3/4 Spanish.

He will get teased being called Jesus. I have taught children who have had this as a middle name and as soon as the other children find out it made their lives awful.

Mistletoekids Fri 14-Apr-17 18:30:37

Neither? 😬 Sorry!

M0nica Fri 14-Apr-17 18:30:48

Not in Spain though!

He would get bullied in the uk, probably be ok in Spain.
I'm not that keen on either name really, is there a reason you want something so religious?

In Spain I don't see any issue with Jesus. I prefer Angel though myself, and I think it does work better if he decides to live in the UK in the future.

Floggingmolly Fri 14-Apr-17 18:32:01

Neither. Even in Spain, there are other names.

I come across lots of Angels. I have met 2 Jesuses... They're not that strange here.

We just liked them smile

How is Jesus pronounced in Spain and what is Spanish for angel?

Sadik Fri 14-Apr-17 18:33:14

It's not really any more religious than calling your child Joseph / Mary / Angela though, is it.

nancy75 Fri 14-Apr-17 18:34:05

If I had to pick it would be Angel

ImperialBlether Fri 14-Apr-17 18:34:43

Could you have Angelo or something similar?

Sadik Fri 14-Apr-17 18:34:49

I think Angel is a fab name. And I have to say the blokes I've known called Jesus haven't been notably religious.

nancy75 Fri 14-Apr-17 18:35:05

Jesus is like hay Zeus can't explain Angel, the g is soft

Sadik Fri 14-Apr-17 18:35:20

If you go with Angel and move to the UK people will just think you're a Buffy fan . . .

NeonGod73 Fri 14-Apr-17 18:36:02

The Spanish pronounce it like Hésús. It's a common name in the Latin Americas but British kids will take the Micky out of him.

UrsulaPandress Fri 14-Apr-17 18:36:27

Or a Hardy fan.

thebakerwithboobs Fri 14-Apr-17 18:40:22

Angel is a girl's name usually. Perhaps Angelo as previous poster has said? Jesus won't be pronounced the Spanish way here.

Sugarpiehoneyeye Fri 14-Apr-17 18:43:27

Angelo or Zeus.

DumbledoresApprentice Fri 14-Apr-17 18:46:48

Angel pronounced ang-ell?
Jesus pronounced hey-zeus?

I personally prefer Angel. I work in secondary schools and IME name-based bullying is vanishingly rare and I've taught kids with some names that it would be easy to tease. I taught a boy once whose name was pronounced "anal"; in a class full of 14 year olds he was very much one of the "cool kids".

MerryMarigold Fri 14-Apr-17 18:46:48

I prefer Jehovah

Awwlookatmybabyspider Fri 14-Apr-17 18:54:06

Angel is a bit girlie.
And There's only one Jesus, surely

user1492190294 Fri 14-Apr-17 18:54:24

Yes, but he won't be in the UK.

nancy75 Fri 14-Apr-17 18:57:14

Angel is a boys name and there are lots of kids called Jesus!
Op do you have some English family? Which name can they pronounce the best? I couldn't stand years of a grandparent saying dcs name wrong!
