I would assume it was a surname.

Initial assumption would be boy, but it does work for a girl too imo

Well it's a surname but I would assume boy.
I don't like the trend to use surnames and boys' names for girls.

A boy or a surname. In fact I know 3 toddler boys called Carter in my small ish village!

I wouldn't assume knowing that surname type names, particularly in the US, are used for boys and girls. I'd think boy was more likely in the UK but wouldn't bet on it.

Showing my age but used to watch a tv series ER with a lead character, Dr John Carter, only ever called "Carter" by the rest, so definitely see it for a boy not girl.

A boy. Not at all keen on these surname names. A carter was someone who presumably drove (or made? I don't know) carts for a living. Why name your kid that?

Definitely a boy

Boy but I wouldn't think it was odd for a girl

Also would think of Carter in ER but he was a good egg.

Because it was a name me and DC dad picked before he passed away so when DC arrives in July I would still like to use the name we wanted...it also goes better with the middle name and it goes with my son's name...as I said still using just wanted interested at what gender people thought, thank you Smile
