Like Lauryn hills son/ the song about him?

I love the name- I'd have used it but DP wasn't keen.

I love the name Zion.
Ive just said on the tyrese thread that names that sound black aren't liked on this site. Wrong place to ask.

Sounds black?? We are not black... It's a biblical name lmao. It's pronounced like Lion.

My cousin has this name. It's a good strong name and culturally fitting for us. Do you like the name? And if you do, then pick it.
The Zion I know is extremely clever and won't let anyone stand in his way. He's 8 and is already formidable. I like to think we're like our names.

CakesAreBiscuitsToo · 07/04/2017 15:58

It sounds political to me.

notanothernamechangebabes · 07/04/2017 15:59

It's a name with a lot of cultural connotations op, and you should be aware of them if you want to use it...

Still see nothing wrong with it if you are not black. Do you like the name? But yes I'd be surprised with a little blond boy who was called Zion. Then I'd get used to it.

I love it and know a few lovely Zion's, I really wanted it for DC1's name after the Damian Marley and Lauren Hill song.
Chose against it because it is quite political.

I know how its pronounced and that its biblical but its in the same vein as Elijah, ezekiel to me.

I was answering the person who asked how it was pronounced Smile

Well, if you think he and everyone he ever meets will somehow be able to detach himself/themselves from the hugely complex political connotations, then go for it.

In the real world? No.

MrsMeeseeks · 07/04/2017 16:03

It's a bit pretentious, IMO. I know two Zions and both sets of parents are very, er, 'aspirational'.

Guinnesspunch yes name debates on this site remind me I am an "other" in this country. But I'm trying to bring positivity and hope to enlighten. Whether I succeed I don't know. 😂

Nope, the political connotations are insurmountable IMO.

It's a bit Jewish/Reggae for me.

Report
WindwardCircle · 07/04/2017 16:08

I like the sound of the name, but the political connotations attached to it put it in the no category for me.
