francescaduck1 Fri 07-Apr-17 15:49:12

Wow!! Really? grin

LouKout Fri 07-Apr-17 15:50:07

Sorry! We all have different taste though )

LouKout Fri 07-Apr-17 15:51:22

That was meant to be smile

cliffdiver Fri 07-Apr-17 15:52:40

How do you pronounce it?

Loyly Fri 07-Apr-17 15:52:59

Sorry, I don't like it.

CarlPoppaJaJiggyJarJardoo Fri 07-Apr-17 15:53:08

I love it

CakesAreBiscuitsToo Fri 07-Apr-17 15:53:24

Eh, no. Not a good name, OP.

notanothernamechangebabes Fri 07-Apr-17 15:54:18

Like Lauryn hills son/ the song about him?

I love the name- I'd have used it but DP wasn't keen.

GuinessPunch Fri 07-Apr-17 15:55:45

I love the name Zion.
Ive just said on the tyrese thread that names that sound black aren't liked on this site. Wrong place to ask.

francescaduck1 Fri 07-Apr-17 15:57:06

Sounds black?? We are not black... It's a biblical name lmao. It's pronounced like Lion.

Buck3t Fri 07-Apr-17 15:57:25

My cousin has this name. It's a good strong name and culturally fitting for us. Do you like the name? And if you do, then pick it.
The Zion I know is extremely clever and won't let anyone stand in his way. He's 8 and is already formidable. I like to think we're like our names.

CakesAreBiscuitsToo Fri 07-Apr-17 15:58:00

It sounds political to me.

notanothernamechangebabes Fri 07-Apr-17 15:59:32

It's a name with a lot of cultural connotations op, and you should be aware of them if you want to use it...

Buck3t Fri 07-Apr-17 16:00:29

Still see nothing wrong with it if you are not black. Do you like the name? But yes I'd be surprised with a little blond boy who was called Zion. Then I'd get used to it.

Mrsknackered Fri 07-Apr-17 16:00:57

I love it and know a few lovely Zion's, I really wanted it for DC1's name after the Damian Marley and Lauren Hill song.
Chose against it because it is quite political.

GuinessPunch Fri 07-Apr-17 16:00:58

I know how its pronounced and that its biblical but its in the same vein as Elijah, ezekiel to me.

francescaduck1 Fri 07-Apr-17 16:01:43

I was answering the person who asked how it was pronounced smile

LouKout Fri 07-Apr-17 16:02:11

I dont dislike it because it sounds black hmm

BertrandRussell Fri 07-Apr-17 16:03:08

Well, if you think he and everyone he ever meets will somehow be able to detach himself/themselves from the hugely complex political connotations, then go for it.

In the real world? No.

MrsMeeseeks Fri 07-Apr-17 16:03:41

It's a bit pretentious, IMO. I know two Zions and both sets of parents are very, er, 'aspirational'.

Buck3t Fri 07-Apr-17 16:05:05

Guinnesspunch yes name debates on this site remind me I am an "other" in this country. But I'm trying to bring positivity and hope to enlighten. Whether I succeed I don't know. 😂

EssentialHummus Fri 07-Apr-17 16:05:55

Nope, the political connotations are insurmountable IMO.

TheBookIsOnTheTable Fri 07-Apr-17 16:06:42

It's a bit Jewish/Reggae for me.
