Ezra for a girl?

Hey everyone, i was wondering is the name Ezra acceptable for a girl? I personally think the a ending makes it sound feminine. I know its not common for a girl but more boy names are being used for girls right? I would hate to not be able to use it :/ need some feedback / opinions? Grin

Ezra - is boys name.
Esra - is the female version, I know a gorgeous Esra!

For me it's no different to calling a girl Matthew or Mark. But hey, it's your choice.

It's your choice but your child has to live with it. I wouldn't. Poor kid.

It is a bit like a mash up of Esme and Laura perhaps. I can see it as a name for a girl, but there are many other great names so I wouldn't rush to choose it.

It's funny how boys' names easily transfer to girls and become unisex but not quite so much the opposite way.

I know an Ezri and thought that was quite pretty

It's fine OP. I knew an Ezra, she was Turkish.

I know a female Esra who is Turkish

Esra is a female Turkish name. There's also Isra, the Arabic version.

Esra is perfectly fine for a girl.

No, it's a boys' name.

Esra yes. Ezra no.

With the -a ending it feels feminine already but I'd probably spell it Esra, that looks prettier for a girl.

I've always thought that Ezra sounds and looks feminine

CAGLIOSTRO, Ezri is lovely !

It's a boy's name. Only use it for a girl if you would happily call a boy Susan.

Esra? Esri? Yes.

Ezra? No.

I came on to suggest Ezri - beautiful name!

Ezra works fine on a girl IMO but it is getting more popular now (for boys) so she might get some confusion down the line.

I know a female Ezra. She's cool, so now the name seems like a cool girl's name. I don't mind it at all.

It's like calling a boy Rebecca.

Loving all the alternatives though!

If ending in the letter A makes a name feminine, then where are all the girls named Joshua?

Maybe in 10 years?

Sisters called Joshua, Jebediah, Jeremiah and... Jonah?

FFS, It's a boy's name! Why is this stupid trend for giving girls a boy's name? And why is it always girls, not boys getting called Susan or Ellen?

LouKout · 07/04/2017 13:03

Agreed. People should ask themselves if they would have liked being called a boys name at school and for the rest of their lives
