So recently, for no reason, I've fallen in love with the name Matilda. I only have a few weeks until DD is here but I'm worried that it's not nice/ or is an 'old' name? What do you think?sad

JaxingJump Thu 06-Apr-17 11:36:35

It's perfectly nice. Some people will love it, some will hate it it most will think it's fine. You are definitely not shackling your DD with problems with this name so go for it!

Gorgeous name!! Go for it!!

Pancaker Thu 06-Apr-17 11:37:37

Yes, a lovely name!

DeborahFallis77 Thu 06-Apr-17 11:38:29

Love it. 💗
Some gorgeous nicknames too - Tilly, Matty, Tilda.
Go for it.
In 14 years of teaching I've never had a Matilda (and this is something I look for when naming my own kiddos...to have never taught a child with that name!)

Lovely but EXTREMELY popular - I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the Top Ten this year.

HeteronormativeHaybales Thu 06-Apr-17 11:38:39

It's lovely. Considered it for dd.

SuperBeagle Thu 06-Apr-17 11:38:45

I love Matilda. Great name.

Don't like it sorry, sounds silly/short-term trendy and immature to me and also has zero grace. But if you love it, who cares!

BoboBunnyH0p Thu 06-Apr-17 11:41:57

Lovely name, I know one who goes by nn Tilda.

MelinaMercury Thu 06-Apr-17 11:42:04

I think it's a perfectly reasonable, timeless name which suits children and adults.

It's not overly popular here but we do have a lot of Tilly's if that matters.

TheBookIsOnTheTable Thu 06-Apr-17 12:05:58

It's very popular right now, so I think your worries are unfounded.

Jooni Thu 06-Apr-17 12:09:22

Love it, it's not Top 10 popular but certainly well-used, so I'm guessing the general reaction to it will be good.

❤️ Matilda, beautiful name.

steppemum Thu 06-Apr-17 12:24:44

quite popular round here. Tilly is most common nn which I like too.

Frustratedboarder Thu 06-Apr-17 12:27:41

We have a middle name Matilda, with a more unusual first name as it is definitely more popular right now but obviously we are definite fans! One of the main deciding factors - along with abreviation flexibility as previously mentioned - was the meaning (means Strong in Battle) which we felt was really inspiring, motivating, and of course strengthening... grin can't understand why more people don't research name meaning when choosing tbh but there we go!

Anyway, yeh - do it!!!

BasicBetty Thu 06-Apr-17 14:13:14

I don't like it at all, sorry.

Sophronia Thu 06-Apr-17 18:23:50

Lovely but quite popular.

ClaryBeanHorshAndMe Thu 06-Apr-17 18:38:33

I have an aunt called Matilda (and she's an extremely interesting character... ) and it seems to have become somewhat popular again.

It's a really lovely name imo.

Same. But I'm probably taking it a bit too seriously. Because name meanings have put me off names I actually quite liked...

Error404usernamenotfound Thu 06-Apr-17 18:42:24

I like it - there aren't enough strong-sounding girls' names around. It is getting very popular at the moment though - that may bother you or it may not.

scrivette Thu 06-Apr-17 19:03:27

There are a couple around my way, one goes by Tilly.
It's a sweet name.

Ikeameatballs Thu 06-Apr-17 19:05:55

I really love it, particularly with the nicknames Matty or Tilda, less keen on Tilly.

Rockaby Thu 06-Apr-17 19:06:04

Lovely but popular / having a moment I think, (if that bothers you).

AliciaMayEmory Thu 06-Apr-17 19:11:18

I love it. I know a 6 year old Matilda who is known as Tilly.

Knittedfrog Thu 06-Apr-17 19:12:10

Love it
