I chose my sons name from the start even before he was conceived!

I've used it all through the pregnancy, he's now 9 days old & have used Joshua for this time too.

However I'm registering him tomorrow & I'm having a complete meltdown about his name now!

I am absolutely in love with his name, I just don't know how I feel about the UA (you uh) at the end! It's really bloody bothering me!

Help me!

Tell me I'm being stupid & his name is fine, I don't even know if I could change it now....ffs tootired get a bloody grip!

Congratulations on your new baby boy. You are being stupid, his name is fine Wink If the 'you-ah' bothers you then just shorten it for everyday use to Josh.
I like the name for what it's worth Smile

I think I'm being silly, I chose the name because I absolutely love it but am worried he might not look like a Joshua as he grows.

Family take the piss & call him Joshi which winds me up.

I keep thinking he looks like an Oscar but EVERYONE knows him as Joshua, he's my Joshua, my JJ!

Damn it!! Is this normal??

You don't need to register for 6 weeks, why don't you just delay the appointment until you feel more confident?

Why does "Joshi" annoy you so much? Genuine question - I assume I'm missing something!

Fwiw it's a fine name. It's very well used. I think you are overthinking it tbh.

Re it being normal, I don't know. I've read on here that baby name regret can be a symptom of pnd, but I don't really know. How are you otherwise?

If you really don't know about the name, don't register him yet. You have some time Smile.

9/10 days post partum was the absolute worst for me. I was only capable of crying hysterically over ridiculous things, and leaking bodily fluids from every oriface. There's literally no way I could have registered DD at this point as u didn't even know what day it was, never mind her name.

I'd have had exactly your concerns at this point, over a beautiful name. It wasn't even pnd, I just had the odd wobble.

Tbh I'd just cancel the appointment and rebook something for in a few weeks. There's no rush. Just tell people you were knackered and couldn't be arsed if they ask why.

Then, when you're in a calmer place you can have some head space to think about his name.

Joshua is beautiful. I also like joshi as a nn, and if my siblings had a baby called Joshua I'd probably refer to him as Joshi without the inclination to take the piss. I'd be mortified if they didn't tell me it annoyed me tho, and if they did I'd certainly stop.

Flowers and congratulations!

Oh, and all kids look like their name when they grow up. Can you think of any adults you know who don't look like their name? No!

I have a Joshua it's a nice name. I don't get the hate on Joshie either it's his nick name like the fact I call my eldest instead of Joseph Joe

So call him Oscar!

I do love the name, I just didn't realise Joshua's were called Joshie as a NN Confused it's like one of those sickly pet names couples have for each other like sugarplum 🤔

I think it is a lovely name! Tiredness and hormones are wonderful things aren't they?!

If you really don't like the nickname that people have started using, just reply with his name is Joshua/Josh. You shouldn't need to say it more than a couple of times!

You are very tired and hormonal, OP. Give yourself another few days to think about it.

Can you think of any adults you know who don't look like their name? Yes.

Tbh I think any 4 day old baby will inspire 'cutesy' nicknames Smile. It's about the only time they suit them. Emma becomes emsy, Luke becomes Lukey etc. I don't imagine he'll still be joshi when he's 30! That said, if it's really getting to you then just tell them to stop.
