What would you call Freya as a nickname?

OP posts:

Nick names develop for your children on their own.

My son's name has an obvious nickname which he hates and requests no one uses (although he loves his full name)

My DD's name has an obvious nickname but we call her something entire different which isn't related to her name at all.

Freya is a lovely name just as it is.

My niece is Freya.

She gets called "Freya daya" or other sing song type names. Never a proper nickname.

My children's main nicknames are Puppy Cookie and Bosco not in the slightest way related to their actual names

OlennasWimple · 28/03/2017 01:30

F / Effie / Yaya

Or something completely random, not connected to their name

Why would you want a NN for such a lovely name, though?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/03/2017 08:40

Rey !

I know someone who's nieces nickname is frey-bear

Sophronia · 28/03/2017 09:39

Frey
Fifi

liquidrevolution · 28/03/2017 09:46

Why shorten it? Dd has a similar name and we have never needed to use a nickname. They are not a necessity.

Genuinely confused here...

What is the obsession with 'choosing' nicknames?

Find a name you love and call her that. If you like Freya then call her Freya. Why would you want to shorten/change/ruin a perfectly normal name?

Nicknames may or may not evolve naturally. My dd has a 3 syllable name that nobody shortens.

The Freya I know has the nickname Freddie

emanresu1998 · 29/03/2017 13:45

My Freya gets Effie (not planned, just worked out like that!)

crapfatbanana · 29/03/2017 13:58

What's wrong with just Freya?

You can't force nicknames. They emerge naturally. My kids have myriad nicknames, most nothing at all to do with their real names.

Do you mean you want a shorter, cutesier version of a longer name?

Gallavich · 29/03/2017 18:28

I'd call her Freya
I don't see the need to shorten names, especially short names like Freya which are lovely as they are.
I have a name that is usually shortened and has quite a few options but I always go by the full name because it's a nice name. I don't get why you would choose a name and then call them something else!

geordiedench · 29/03/2017 18:30

I immidately think of Rae or Fifi. Effie is cute too.

elQuintoConyo · 29/03/2017 18:32

Isn't Freya short enough? It doesn't actually need one.

You might find she is nicknamed Mary at high school!

I had a friend at university baptised Richard Stokes - but we all called him Johnny Clueless (after a condom incident Grin).
