Orla or Orlagh?
Can't decide! Auto correction on phones etc change Orla to Oral which is a pain in the bum.

How about Ă“rfhlaith Grin

If you're in the UK I'd go for Orla, for ease of spelling. Beautiful name.

See I love the more Irish spellings, I am from Scotland but my family are Irish. My partner prefers these 2 spellings but I just can't decide Smile

Orla might be easier option if not in Ireland. I prefer Orlaith to Orlagh or Orfhlaith, however.

Good name though, whichever spelling you go for.

Orla.

Orlagh makes me want to say Or-lag, even though I know it's not pronounced like that. But I'm Australian, so. I know a Clodagh and she gets "clo-dag" a lot.

People can't get Orla wrong.

I like Orlagh but then I'm Scottish so possibly more comfortable/familiar with Gaelic spellings than you might find if you are in England.

It's a beautiful name with any of the spellings though!

Orla.

I am Irish. The other spellings are very "newly come to Irish names" spellings to me. Every Orla I knew growing up in the 60s/70s in Ireland were Orla.

Orla. It's the most common spelling in Ireland. It's not an anglicisation and it's a more legitimate spelling than some of the manglings that particular name comes in for. And it looks better!

There is a recently elected Sinn Fein politician called Orlaithi something, with a fada over the first and last letters. I cringe for her.

Orla.

It seems to be a thing now to try and prove your Irishness by shoving as many consonants and extraneous fadas into a name as possible.

It is the most common spelling in Ireland. I know of three, offhand, all Orla spelling.

I think that's it decided then. Thanks everyone!

Orla, definitely.

I've only ever seen the spellings Orla and Orlaith before. I like them both but not in love with Orlagh tbh, so I'd vote for Orla (or Orlaith if that's an option).

I asked exactly this question 15 months ago. We went for Ă“rla. We like the fada.

Great name
