Friends mother is having a baby due in 2 weeks and they can't decide.
Also haven't got a middle name so suggestions would be helpful

I like Freya better, but I do know a few already, it's kind of fashionable at the moment.

I like both equally! Whichever they choose, could the other be the middle name, so either Freya Caitlin, or Caitlin Freya?

I have honestly never met a Caitlin I didnt like. Grin

I have a Freya, she is 2. When we had her lots of people (including MIL) thought we had made the name up lol. Now I know of quite a few Freyas.

Caitlin pronounced Kate-Lin or Cat-leen? I prefer the latter, otherwise Freya.

Freya is lovely

Biased as my gorgeous best friend is Caitlin and I absolutely love it.
Freya is very nice too, but quite a few around.

Freya. It's getting a popular name i think, but i can see why, it's lovely. Caitlin is way too dated, and it annoys me that there are so many spellings of it.

I love Caitlin but i reckon it would be shortened to Kate and i like the unusual names. I wouldn't want it shortened to Kate. But all my opinion!

Freya.

I've never liked the name Caitlin. On the other hand, Freya is what I'd name another daughter, if I ever had one.

Freya, definitely. Smile

Ticks all the right boxes:

Goddess of love and beauty, and also the amazing and feisty Freya Stark as a namesake!
(And if you're still after a middle name: hers, Madeline, is pretty?).

Love the name Caitlin! Not so keen on Freya.

I prefer Freya to Caitlin. But it's very popular. How about Faye instead?

I'll be this thread's Irish person who points out that Caitlin is actually Cáitlín, pronounced roughly Koyt-leen or Kotch-leen. Caitlin pronounced Kate-Lynne is an American mispronunciation gone mainstream -- unsurprisingly, there's even a baby names website with Frank McCourt mispronouncing it.

So, Freya.

I have a 10 year old Freya and get lots of compliments on her name

Both lovely names but Caitlin is less popular so that's the one I'd pick.

Caitlin Frieda
Caitlin Mary
Caitlin Martha

Love Freya but it's too popular for me to use it. If that doesn't bother you, go for it.

Knifegrinder although it is incorrect, without the accents it wouldn't be pronounced like that and it is used so frequently spelt that way and pronounced that way that no one will bat an eyelid.
Both the Caitlin's I know are Irish and pronounce it cate-lin

Thank you knife
I have a child with a name regularly 'unusually spelt' parents being creative and it slightly gets up my nose.
Freya is so popular that in our local village school ( of 100 pupils) there are three! Grin

I've got a 20 year old Freya, it was unusual then!
Either is nice though.
