Baby names

Ralph?

I have never met a Ralph and I can't work out if there's something terrible about the name that I'm missing. I think Ralphie is cute for the baby years and Ralph is good for an older child and adult. What do you think?

I like the pn Rafe but less keen on Ralph. Too many Judy Blume memories Grin

Rafe isn't too bad, spelled that way, but to me Ralph looks and sounds awful.

And it's slang for vomiting, which is not a good association.

Not keen. Too many negative associations. Seconding Rafe, that spelling.

Ralph doesn't mean vomiting where we live Confused

The other names I like are Caspar and Rory but I'm really struggling to find anything I love or could actually imagine using.

I know a Ralph. Can't say I'd choose the name myself.

Have you any other favourites?

Ralphie makes me think of chief wiggum's son in the simpsons... but it's cute.

Couldn't go for it myself....our blonde Labrador is called Ralph. Sorry.

I like Rory and Casper. Rory more. If I could pronounce my Rs better, I'd use it!

I see you have other names you like. The later is a very strong name. Shorter or one syllable names tend to be.

Judy Blume for me too. Infact dicks are what I think when I hear the name Ralph.

30yrs later it still makes me snigger like the 12yr old I was when I read it.

"Forever" for me too I'm afraid. Maybe it's generational.

Rory is nice.

I actually really like it! Ralphie is cute and sounds just like Alfie which is very popular.

It's the name of a penis for me, sorry!

Ralph Wiggum makes it a big no for me.

Love Rory though.

SuperBeagle · 18/03/2017 00:40

Wiggum.

I like Caspar a lot. Rory is better than Ralph too.

I like Ralph! Don't see the problem with it personally. I had no idea it was slang for penis or vomit or anything else. Just a strong, simple, classic name to me.

I know a Ralph aged 50 from when we were in primary and it was really old fashioned then. Everyone else was called Mark and Paul.

I also know a Ralph in his seventies.

Awful name.

Don't mind your other two choices.

Ralph ( pronounced Rafe) Is gorgeous.

It isn't particularly slang for a penis, but the name of a chap's penis in a Pan Horizon book many of us read in our formative years!

Weird. Why do so many people dislike the name Ralph? It's fine. Rafe is nice, Ralfie is very cute. And it's a normal name without being very popular, which is hard to find.
I love Rory too, though prefer the Scottish spelling.
How about Rafael? Raffie is cute too.
