Eleri Farrell
Eleni Farrell
Elodie Farrell

Which sounds best and any pitfall I haven't seen? Thanks x

I like Eleri or Elodie.

Not keen on Eleni, no specific reason, I just prefer the sound of the others!

Foureyesarebetterthantwo Wed 15-Mar-17 11:03:15

Elodie is a lovely name!

Not quite so fussed about the others, Eleni sounds like Helen but you don't know how to say it, it doesn't trip off the tongue, put it that way.

I want a baby Elodie and a baby Magda after these threads this week!

EssentialHummus Wed 15-Mar-17 11:05:26

I prefer Elodie, of the three.

ILikeSalmon Wed 15-Mar-17 11:05:27

Eleri Farrell is not easy to say

EssentialHummus Wed 15-Mar-17 11:06:01

I'd add, I really love Eleni but to me it's exclusively a Greek name.

sosieso Wed 15-Mar-17 11:08:47

Eleri- all I hear is celery
Eleni- unsure how to pronounce it. El-en-i or El-ay-ni
Elodie- best of the three, sounds lovely and cheerful. Might get confused for Melody though.

Spam88 Wed 15-Mar-17 11:11:28

Eleri gets my vote smile

And PP, if it sounds like celery you're saying it wrong wink emphasis is on the second syllable

KanyeWesticle Wed 15-Mar-17 11:11:44

Elodie 100%. Beautiful

Frankiefarr Wed 15-Mar-17 11:11:48

We sought of wanted a Helen name for family reasons without going down the Helen, Elenor route

HollyJollyDillydolly Wed 15-Mar-17 11:11:56

Eleri farrell is quite 'r' heavy.
I'd go with Elodie out of the three.

Frankiefarr Wed 15-Mar-17 11:13:44

Oh dear might have to count Eleri out now as I pronounce it to sound like celery but I know someone called this who pronounces it herself as in celery.

Kazzawazza69 Wed 15-Mar-17 11:18:02

Elodie is lovely

saltyshoes Wed 15-Mar-17 11:18:38

Elodie or Eleni. Elouise?

NellWilsonsWhiteHair Wed 15-Mar-17 11:51:05

I like Eleri best - but I only know it pronounced as spam said!

Elodie is pretty.

lananzack Wed 15-Mar-17 11:51:35

Eleni, beautiful.

HamSandwichKiller Wed 15-Mar-17 12:01:20

Eleni means 'this year' in Welsh. Fine if you live out of Wales but oddly distracting if you do.

Sugarpiehoneyeye Wed 15-Mar-17 13:53:29

❤️ Eleni.

lucieloos Wed 15-Mar-17 13:57:39

Eleri is a Welsh name and is pronounced e-LAIR-ree

My husband speaks fluent Welsh and whilst Eleni is a word used in Welsh it doesn't have a direct translation into English as 'this year' in Welsh would be blwyddyn yma not Eleni. We thought of it as a possible girls name and he assures me nobody would think we had named the child 'this year. It's kind of similar to those with the name Beth it means 'what' in Welsh but nobody would ever associate the two together if you know what I mean.

Out of your names I like Elodie and Eleni the best. Not so keen on Eleri.

Eilidhkhunter Wed 15-Mar-17 14:01:09

Eilidh is Gaelic for Helen if you are looking for a Helen name.

Sophronia Wed 15-Mar-17 15:45:58

Elodie

PattyPenguin Wed 15-Mar-17 16:10:44

Eleni is used very widely for 'this year' in Welsh. It confuses the life out of me when I hear the Greek name!

If you want a name related to Helen, there's the Welsh Elen or Elin or the English Ellen. Elen Luyddog is a mythical figure in Wales who was supposed to the wife of Maximus or Macsen.

minipie Wed 15-Mar-17 16:11:54

Eleni - but only if pronounced the Greek way, El-AY-nee, not Ellen-ee

Eleri is also lovely but again only if pronounced the Welsh way, not like celery

I don't think Eleri or Elodie have much to do with Helen tbh.

Nell
Nella
Alina
Lena
Ilona
Elena
Alena

These are all variants on Helen apparently

Jooni Wed 15-Mar-17 17:35:37

Eleni is my fave. Beautiful name! Eleri is very lovely too.

lucieloos Wed 15-Mar-17 18:14:02

The Greek way of pronouncing Eleni is ee-len-i not ee-lay-ni.
