I have a son named Oscar.

I really love Maddie. Thoughts?

I'd use Madeleine and shorten it rather than just have Maddie on the birth certificate, other than that can't see a problem.

Yes, Madeleine on BC, but would go by Maddie until she decides.

Forever associated with the mccanns. I wouldn't.

Lovely name. I've taught a few Maddies over the years and they have always been lovely!

I agree with pp, it will always be associated with the mccanns now, but I think once people meet your little Maddie, they will associate it will her, so I wouldn't let it put you off.

Maddie makes me think of someone or something very mad. I'm not keen, sorry

Madeleine is lovely, but sadly it's tainted for me.

For me it is maddie McCann, sorry.

However, it won't be for your daughters peers, or really anyone under 18 currently I imagine.

I really don't understand the Madeleine McCann references every time that this name comes up on a thread.

Every Holly, Jessica and Sarah thread doesn't have this. Why Madeleine?! Sad

I think because it was a much less common name, and it's what the newspapers called her.

Anyway OP, as I said before nobody from the younger generations will make this connection so don't be put off.

My dd had two good friends called Holly and Jessica. It did go through my mind, but their names are lovely and they are lovely, there's nothing more to think than that, they are their names.

I think Madeleine is a lovely name too, I just can't spell it!

Madeleine is a lovely name. I really dislike Maddie though.

I like Madeleine, but not Maddie. Ruled it out for my DD because of the McCann connection, but that was 8 years ago. It wouldn't necessarily put me off if I were thinking about it now.

When I first glanced at your thread title, i did think of Madeline McCann. But there is a Maddie in my Dcs school. When I talk to her or hear her name I have never thought of the other Maddie.

It's a lovely name OP

It's a nice name. I've known several lovely Madeleines/Maddies. I think it's quite popular now? Which might or might not bother you.

I pronounce it Mad-er-lyn. How would you pn it?

I have a Maddalena shortened to Maddy 👌

I like Madeleine. Really not keen on Maddie, especially when that goes on the BC.

If you like it, use it. It's inoffensive. We can't all like the same thing, the world would be weird if we did.
