Reuben is more solid and manly.

Louis can be pronounced the French way (Lou-EE) or the English/German/Spanish way (Lou-IS)

I prefer Reuben.

Not keen on the "Loo" sound in Louis.

Yeah, we would go for the French pronunciation Smile

Louis. I know a reuben and it gets shortened to ruby. Which is awful for a boy.

Imho Louis sounds a real drippy name if pronounced the French way. I can't believe how popular it is & hate the fact it sounds like a lavatory at the start! Reuben is a much nicer name and less overused.

Dislike Reuben.

Both lovely, but I would go for Reuben. I work in a school and there are a lot of boys called Louis but none called Reuben.

I also dislike the French pronunciation, it sounds like Loo and wee Blush

Well, if we were going for the other pronunciation, we would spell it Lewis Smile

Reuben - but I'm biased as I have one myself Grin

My Reuben in in his 20s now, and has always disliked his name. He questions why I would name a baby after a sandwich :/
His name has been 'shortened' to Poo-bum, Pubes and Roobz. I still love his name, but have noticed it's increased popularity lately.
Louis - I'm indifferent to.

Louis definitely.

I also have a strong dislike of Reuben but that's because the man in the house behind has a dog by that name that he lets bark for ages and repeatedly calls his name in a really high pitched voice.... Confused

I like Reuben but I love Louis. Very cool name!

Also, Louis with the French pronunciation as, as you say otherwise it would be Lewis. Hmm

Gummibears · 12/03/2017 16:04

But Louis is often pronounced Lou-is outside of France e.g. in Germany or the US (St Louis)

In other words it doesn't have to be Lewis for it to be pronounced Lou-is

ImperialBlether · 12/03/2017 16:07

The correct pronunciation for Louis is the French pronunciation.

If you want to sound the 's' then it's Lewis.

Prefer Louis. Reuben is a bit ponsey. Sorry.
