DH and I have really different taste in names, and he's vetoed almost everything I like and changes his mind all the time, so this has been really difficult!
We don't live in the U.K right now but will again in the future so I'm particularly interested in getting a British perspective.

Amatullah - my favourite
Mouna
Lamees
Hirah
Maysoon
Iman
Kenza - DH's favourite

Kenza gets my vote. I also like Maysoon, but not keen on the others.

I like Mouna and Hirah best. I also like Amatullah and taught a sweet one once so it has nice connotations for me.

Kenza is beautiful :) don't like any of the others sorry.

Nearly everyone I've asked in real life seems to like Kenza best too, Amatullah can't really be shortened so don't think it would work so well in the U.K.
Kenza is my second favourite so might let DH win this one Smile

I'm sorry but I really dislike Kenza. It sounds chavvy! Sorry!! I like Hirah and Mouna.

Maysoon is best.

From a U.K. Perspective, kenza would be shortened to ken (which is an old mans name).4

I love Iman!

Iman or Kenza are lovely! I would shorten Kenza to Kenni for a little girl, gorgeous!

Kenza is my favourite

Silence The meaning of Amatullah is Servent of Allah which is why most shortenings don't work, it's the female form of Abdullah, which works the same way.

My brother said he thinks Kenza would be shortened to Kenni, which I'm ok with, I think it sounds quite cute although I know it's usually for boys. Ken is not very cute!

RuthB4 Can I ask why you think Kenza sounds chavvy? Because I don't really understand what make some names classy and others tacky, maybe because English isn't my first language, I'm not sure. I just go on what has a nice sound to me and has a good meaning.

Kenza is lovely and think it would work well in the UK.

SilenceOfThePrams · 11/03/2017 12:31

I can understand why you wouldn't shorten it yourself, but I suspect friends and classmates back in the uk might - so if that were to be disrespectful or annoying to you, I'd avoid it as a name.

I like the meaning.

Silence I agree that would be likely to happen, and I would hate it so I think we won't be able to use it

I like Lamees, Hirah, Maysoon.

Kenza is also nice but wouldn't want to risk nickname of Ken or Kenny.

How is Mouna pronounced? Does "mou" rhyme with who or how?

Pmurt · 11/03/2017 22:49

Hirah is nice and sounds a bit like hero

Kenza is my least favourite
