Theodora or Matilda? Definitely the NNs Teddie and Mattie until old enough to decide for herself.

Our 3rd choice was Winter (Winnie) but she isn't going to be born in Winter.

I think Winter is a lovely name for any time of year.

I prefer Theodora to Matilda, and would choose by the longer name I preferred rather than the nicknames.

If she has to be Teddie or Mattie then I would choose Winter.

Theodora is really lovely!! And Teddie is cute smile

I don't think Winter is nice for a spring or summer baby.

ScarletSienna Fri 10-Mar-17 13:05:00

I dislike both nn but like both Mathilda and Theodora. Also like Winter but it's quite a different feel to the others and not sure I'd use it if not a Winter baby.

Love both full names, less keen on the nicknames but whatever floats your boat.

I'd go with Theodora personally, it's a bit more distinctive and there are lots of other nickname options if she feels like a change later. Winter is v cool too but feels like a totally different style to me. That said, I don't think she needs to be born in Winter for it to be usable.

I like Theodora a lot, but really dislike Teddie.

Love Winter.

Theodora and Mathilda are beautiful names, it would be a shame to shorten to Mattie or Teddie.

fradelly Fri 10-Mar-17 14:32:46

It would never be Mathilda... I hate creative spellings.

Sophronia Fri 10-Mar-17 14:36:55

Theodora is more interesting, there are lots of Matildas around.

Mathilda isn't a creative spelling though.

Rockaby Fri 10-Mar-17 14:38:50

I love Theodora! Nn Teddie is sweet too.

jesuspolly Fri 10-Mar-17 15:15:51

Mattie

Sugarpiehoneyeye Fri 10-Mar-17 16:42:47

Matilda.

Loyly Fri 10-Mar-17 16:44:21

Mathilda isn't a creative spelling. Of your three choices, I like Winter.

NapQueen Fri 10-Mar-17 16:44:35

I much prefer Tilda to Mattie as a nn for Matilda so no to Matilda if Mattie is the only option.

Teddy (rather than Teddie) is an ok nn for Theodora.

BrutusMcDogface Fri 10-Mar-17 16:48:15

Mathilda isn't a "creative spelling"! That would be something like mateeldah grin Mathilda is another way of spelling the name.

Anyway, winter is a horrible name (for a horrible season, haha! wink)

I like Teddie/Theodora. There was a teddy on greys anatomy and I think it's a great nick name for a girl!

n0ne Fri 10-Mar-17 17:04:36

Mathilda is the standard Germanic spelling! Look up the origin of the name.

n0ne Fri 10-Mar-17 17:07:32

But to address the issue, I slightly prefer Theodora. But Mathilda is great too. Not as keen on Matilda.

ScarletSienna Fri 10-Mar-17 22:01:53

Mathilda isn't 'creative' but I like Matilda or Mathilda over Theodora.

Dislike the nicknames enough to vote Winter overall even though it's my least favourite of the three full names.

SuperBeagle Fri 10-Mar-17 22:48:21

Matilda / Mattie.

Hate the Mathilda spelling.

Theodora is fine, but I know two and both get Theo for short. If I had a Theodora, I'd want the nickname Dora, but that doesn't seem to be the assumed shortening. I have a strong dislike for "Teddie".

finagler Fri 10-Mar-17 22:50:26

I know two Matildas and they are both called Molly.

MrsGB2225 Fri 10-Mar-17 22:50:59

Nice actual names, terrible nick names.

Gemmy89 Fri 10-Mar-17 22:53:36

Theodora! But don't love Teddie, sorry. Thea is beautiful.

Joeybee Sat 11-Mar-17 01:34:13

Theodora is a lovely underused name. I personally prefer Matilda though, I think it sounds sweet but also strong.

sosieso Sat 11-Mar-17 07:10:54

We have the same taste! If I ever have a daughter I am going to call her Theodora Winter! Matilda would also be the name of her sister if I had another girl! I like Matilda Olive. So my vote is Theodora, but they are both beautiful names.
